Robert Irwin and girlfriend Rorie Buckey have parted ways after two years of dating. Robert, the 20-year-old son of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, made the announcement Friday in a joint statement with Buckey, 19, who shared the message via her Instagram Story.
“We wanted to share that we have decided to go our separate ways but profoundly appreciate all the time spent together and wish one another all the very best into the future,” the statement read. “We wish to express the gratitude and respect we have for one another as we continue our journeys on different paths,” the pair elaborated.
Robert and his now-ex emphasized that they won’t be “commenting further” on the nature of their breakup, but added that they “really appreciate” their followers’ “respect” as they prioritize their “privacy at this time.” While the young duo were rumored to be dating in 2022, they went Instagram-official in August 2023.
Robert and Buckey, who notably made their red carpet appearance as a couple at the Sydney premiere of “Mission: Impossible 7” in July 2023 , has navigated a long-distance romance, as he lives in Queensland, Australia, while she resides in Perth.
Meanwhile, Buckey is the niece of late Aussie actor Heath Ledger, who tragically passed away at age 28 following a drug overdose. Although they are no longer together, Robert’s older sister, Bindi Irwin, made it no secret that she was a big fan of Buckey.
The 25-year-old mom of one who shared daughter Grace with husband Chandler Powell — raved about Robert’s former love in a heartfelt post. “Sweetest soul, beautiful friend, I love her dearly,” Bindi wrote, adding that her little girl was also a fervid admirer.
