Nintendo has kicked off July with a major commercial success as Rhythm Heaven Groove, also known as Rhythm Heaven Miracle Stars, topped the latest Japanese physical game sales chart.
According to Famitsu, the first brand-new Rhythm Heaven entry in 11 years sold 393,378 physical copies during its debut week, making it the best-selling game in Japan for the week of June 29 to July 5, 2026.
Rhythm Heaven Returns With an Impressive Launch
The latest entry in Nintendo’s rhythm franchise enjoyed a dominant opening, fueled by renewed interest after more than a decade away. Alongside its signature music-based gameplay, Rhythm Heaven Groove introduces support for up to four-player multiplayer and a new RPG-inspired mode called Beat Spelling, helping broaden its appeal for both solo and group play.
Famitsu reported that the title “sold 393,378 copies in its first week,” giving Nintendo one of its strongest launches of the year. The sales estimate includes packaged editions, download cards, and pre-installed versions where applicable.
Ganbare Goemon Collection Makes a Strong Debut

Konami also enjoyed a successful week with Ganbare Goemon Daishuugou!, a collection featuring 13 classic Ganbare Goemon titles.
The Nintendo Switch version debuted in second place with 60,428 copies, while the PlayStation 5 edition entered the chart at No. 6 with 8,773 copies, bringing combined launch sales to 69,201 units.
The collection includes modern quality-of-life features such as rewind, quick save, rapid-fire options, and a music player, making several classic entries more accessible to modern audiences.

Elsewhere on the chart, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream remained in third place with 26,552 copies sold, while Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 dropped from first to fifth but still added another 10,388 units to surpass 52,000 copies sold overall.
Other long-running hits, including Minecraft, Mario Kart World, and Pokemon Pokopia, continued to perform steadily in Japan’s retail market.
On the hardware side, Nintendo Switch 2 remained Japan’s top-selling console for the week with 32,797 units sold, extending its cumulative sales to nearly 6 million systems, according to Famitsu.
