The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World is an Isekai series, meaning the main character is reborn or transported to another unfamiliar world. The series started airing this winter of 2023 and was sanctioned for a 13-episode series. Studio Blanc makes it. It was founded in 2008, and this is the 4th anime series that they have adapted.
The series follows the character’s wishes to become the strongest to help someone else be the strongest. It shows you can be the best but still lay low and help others in need. It eventually develops into a cliche isekai anime where the Hero and Demon King are supposed to fight but with a lot more bad animation and less sense making the storyline.
Review
The latest episode (i.e., Episode 10) introduces a new main character, the Holy Princess (Fiona Urd Alegreif). She was introduced as the Holy Princess and was so beautifully designed that she blew away the character designs of all the other female characters. We also see character growth as Gly becomes more disciplined and mature.
Gly was always harassing Seika and threatening Efa, but the sudden character development when he has not even appeared since the last five episodes is sudden. It was nice to see Gly mature; according to his design of Gly’s character, Gly looked a little more mature and cool, so it suited him.
Now some characters are revealing their backstories and connecting with the story, so the series is starting to make some sense, but it’s too early to tell. It is slowly unveiling the story of something big going on and the story of a demonic spy trying to kill the Hero. This resulted in a good plot, as it was well plotted and planned, and the assassins seemed a bit cool while doing the deed, but it’s still the same as any other isekai cliché where the main character and the demon king are born to fight against each other.
This episode is decisive as it shows Amyu and Seika becoming the future protagonists. Still, the Holy Princess could decide who might become the Hero and who the Demon King is. For some reason, Fiona was eager to meet both of them, so Gly arranged the meeting between all of them. The plot seems interesting as it might engage political matters of real life in the series and connect to how it affects the strong, as the executives are scared of the weak ones.
The anime is taking a turn for the worse as many strong political characters are being introduced, like the Holy Princess, who is politically strong and aims to be on the throne to control much of everything. This seems much like a copy of the Shield Hero series. It seems the main character will be helping others get strong but get strong himself and help one of the characters get the throne.
The episode then moves to the bonding scenes between the Holy Princess and the Academy students (Seika, Amyu, Efa, and Mabel). This scene is pretty much basic. No such fights or debates happen; instead, the family suddenly starts caring about Seika. The mother, who has not talked to him in 12 years, asks him to write more letters home.
Gly, who always used to fight and harass Seika, now treats him respectfully, as Gly has become a knight for the Holy Princess. Efa’s father and Lord Lamprouge talk in an unsettling manner as to Seika is something different which shows there are many secrets yet to be revealed about our future protagonist.
We also what a spoiled and insecure girl Amyu as she barges into Seika’s room, talks about having adventures with him, and reminds him of his promise to her. Amyu makes Seika promise again to see if he still has the same feelings and wants to befriend her. Amyu is this strong character who is supposed to be the Hero, but till now, no such vibes have come from her that she might develop into one.
Then we see a scene where they all go on an outing with the princess as she wishes to see the town of Lord Lamprouge. She runs into problems (constriction items falling on her). Has it ever happened the nobles go out as civilians in groups to look like commoners but not get into trouble? After that, their group had to return to the Lmaprouge mansion as the people started looking towards them.
Gly reveals the past of the Holy Princess and how she was always under house arrest now since she is free and wants to roam around and see the world with everyone. Thus, revealing why she wanted to see the town so badly. Gly also reveals that Fiona can see the future as she is the daughter of the Oracle Priestess and the Kingdom’s King, making her a very important figure and a target.
What happens to whom, and how will the story progress? We will get to know soon as there are three more episodes. It is a worthwhile watch for the new concepts and the fight scenes, which are beautifully animated, but the monsters could use a bit of animation work. Also, the storyline needs more cover-up to make sense of the story and not produce more mysteries. Hopefully, it will develop into a good story by next season.
The Verdict
This isekai series is slightly different as the protagonist remembers everything about his past life after his reincarnation, but how he accomplished this remains a mystery. However, he slowly reveals that he is the strongest and cannot be defeated. Seika talks and makes everyone believe he has no magical affinity, but he surprises people with his spiritual Magic and throws them off course. The story has more and more characters introduced, and it feels like Seika goes out to help everyone in each episode.
Seika’s mission is to help Amyu (probably a hero) claim the title of strongest and make her stay like that so he can enjoy the peace and someone else can take responsibility for the trouble this time. But this doesn’t seem to be happening. Instead, he solves the mystery of why the devil spies want to kill Amyu (because she’s the heroine, of course).
The concept of different types of Magic sounds nice, but the story needs a lot of work and is not a cliche-type magical world where the main character becomes a hero yet. The application of science also seems ingenious, but parts of the harem are included, just like in isekai clichés, to make the story interesting. The harem isekai plot seems boring at this point, but okay.
Our Rating: ⭐ (3.4/5).
