The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady: Plot Summary
The anime starts off with the scene of a bunch of adventurers being chased by wolf-like monsters known as grey wolves; among the adventurers, a particular young girl gets cornered. A rookie adventurer rushes towards her, unable to abandon her.
The young girl turns out to be Anisphia, who swiftly activates a flying broom while pulling out a mana sword from under her skirt. Using these odd tools, she starts fighting with the grey wolves.
The girl then breaks her broom mid-way through her fight with the wolves, but she somehow manages to keep her stance using acrobatics while pulling out a second mana sword. Anis then makes quick work of the grey wolves while dual wielding two mana swords.
During her fight, one of the adventurers pulls away the rookie and tells him that his worries are unwarranted as the girl is way more skilled than her. He describes her as a freak who fights using her mastery of bizarre magic tools, a problem child unlike any other in the kingdom who doesn’t even try to hide her status symbolized by her hair color, the “Marauder Princess,” also known as Anisphia Wynn Palletia, the former crown princess of the Kingdom of Palletia.
After the hunt, the adventurers thank the princess for her support, to which she gives a modest reply stating that she needed the material from the monsters.
During Anis’s departure from the hunting grounds, one of the adventurers starts wondering why she uses those bizarre tools when she’s a royal which gives her access to magic, to which his superior replies with a somber tone that Anis can’t use magic even after being from a royal bloodline.
The next scene then shifts to the Royal Castle, where the King, Anisphia’s father, is discussing something with his ministers. The King, Orphanse II Palletia, then spots Anis strolling through the halls while smeared in monster blood. Anis also spots them and exchanges casual greetings. Orphanse then angrily reprimands Anis, enquiring how she got this filthy so early in the morning.
Noticing the equipment and the big gray wolf hide hanging on her back, he asks whether she has gone hunting for materials yet again. Orphanse then asks whether she has no sense of responsibility as the princess of the kingdom. Anis evades his questions and manages to run away while dropping the gray wolf hide behind.
Orphanse then takes his medicines while wondering what he should do with that foolish daughter of his. His advisor, Duke Grantz, then points out the grey wolf hide that Anis had dropped.
The ministers then wonder how she managed to skin the grey wolf so cleanly, even though normal swords can’t even pierce their skins. One of the ministers replies that it must’ve been possible due to the mana blade that Anis had created.
Orphanse and his ministers then continue on with their discussion while also wondering about the consequences of Anis’s endeavors under the study of magical science, a field that she advocates known as magicology.
One of the ministers wonders about the shady nature of these studies while also wondering how useful they would become. Another minister then admonishes them for thinking about such things since a royal who can’t even use magic is not of any use.
Later on, we are introduced to Euphilia Magenta, a genius magic user who is currently engaged to Algard Von Palletia, the crown prince and Anis’s brother. Euphilia invites Algard to a tea party, to which he comes late, wondering why she is still waiting.
Algard then asks why Euphilia wants to do this even though everyone knows that their engagement is strictly political and none of them have any romantic feelings for each other, to which Euphilia replies that they must do this since it is a political engagement and they must build trust among each other as the ones who will inherit the kingdom. Algard mocks her for being so perfect, and Euphilia just replies that it is her duty as a noble to act in that manner.
Algard’s behavior pushes Euphilia to reprimand him, and she tells him that he should refrain from such behavior in the royal castle as well as in the academy while wanting Algard to refrain from walking around with other girls, especially when he’s engaged.
Euphilia’s tone and implications manage to agitate Algard, who leaves the garden after implying that she’s not worthy of being his betrothed. Algard comes face-to-face with Anis while leaving, while Anis enthusiastically tries to talk with her brother, who just leaves without even glancing in her direction.
Anis tests her new flying broom that night and takes off into the skies, and her broom experiment seems successful for a few moments until she loses control of it, and the broom dashes through the night skies taking Anis along with it.
At the same time, Algard breaks off his engagement with Euphilia in front of all the nobles without his father’s knowledge while also accusing Euphilia of bullying a commoner girl named Lainie, whom Algard loves. But before more damage can be done, Anis crashes into the venue and takes off with Euphilia after reading the room.
Later on, Anis speaks with her father and ends up taking in Euphilia as her assistant while her father is left speculating whether she actually needs her as an assistant or if she just wants Euphilia for herself.
Anis then takes Euphilia to her mansion with a plan to introduce her magic tools to the world under Euphilia’s name in order to restore the honor that she had lost due to a broken engagement. After a few hectic days, Anis presents Euphilia with a sword that was custom-made by her as a gift and asked her to accompany her on her endeavors and experiments as her assistant.
A few days later, Anis is sent a signal by the adventurers guild asking her to help them prevent a stampede that was going to occur, a stampede was a fairly common occurrence in the kingdom, but this time it was of the utmost importance.
This time the stampede was occurring due to a dragon that had been targetting monsters in the nearby forest and was now threatening the entire kingdom’s existence. Anis gets ready to head for the dragon after learning of the situation, but she is stopped by Euphilia, who’s wondering why she is being summoned.
Anis then reveals that she is a gold-rank adventurer even though she’s a royal. So as a high-ranking adventurer, it is her duty to give her aid during such situations. Atop of being an adventurer, Anis even tells her the main reason that she needs to hunt the dragon, the Magicite stone.
Magicite stones are stones that are situated inside monsters that allow humans to use magic temporarily when they are used properly. Anis wants to hunt the dragon and acquire the Magicite since it could be her only chance at using magic.
Euphilia sensing the danger of the mission and Anis’s determination, decides to tag along with her. Anis and Euphilia then haste toward the dragon’s location on her magical broom. Anis and Euphilia then manage to ground the dragon by severing one of its wings, but the dragon then fires a concentrated mass of mana at them, which Anis cuts in half after removing the limiter on her mana blade.
The swing from the released mana blade even manages to fatally wound the dragon. After being wounded, the dragon congratulates Anis for having defeated him and allows her to use his corpse however she wants. But using his last breath, the dragon curses Anis.
Afterward, Anis uses the dragon’s curse, the curse of knowledge, to come up with a procedure to use the dragon’s Magicite stone in a way that would allow her to use its powers.
As a result, she gets a dragon-like tattoo on her back using the Magicite stone as ink, imparting the dragon’s powers onto her. Later on in the story, Anis’s right to the throne is restored after Algard is exiled due to his leading a coup against the current royal regime.
Feeling the weight of her responsibilities and guilt, Anis agrees to become the queen. But at the cost of her identity and aspirations, while also abandoning her love of magicology as the conservatives are against it.
Euphilia proposes the idea of being adopted into the royal family after learning the truth about spirit contractors and how spirit contractors are able to start a new royal bloodline but at the cost of becoming immortal being while losing their memories and feelings throughout their life. As a result, both Anis and Euphilia fall into a dilemma, not wanting to lose each other.
The anime ends with Euphilia and Anis clashing against each other to decide who will become the queen. Euphilia ends up winning the duel using her powers as a spirit contractor with the same sword that Anis had gifted her.
Soon, the king renounces his throne, making Euphilia the queen who promises to give rise to a kingdom where magic is available to everyone, along with freedom and happiness, essentially realizing Anis’s dream.
The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Review
The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady has everything that is absent from the generic isekai stories these days. The plot of this anime is mostly character-driven, with the motivations of different characters steering the plot in different directions.
The emotions and meanings behind the scenes are well delivered. The characters are all unique and have their own motivations along with their own weaknesses and insecurities that they try to resolve and end up taking a radical route in order to resolve them.
Anis is a girl who loves magic, but the magic doesn’t love her back, essentially giving her the talent to mold magic and make use of it in different ways but an inability to use magic on her own. This results in her using magic stones to make pills that allow her to use magic even at the cost of a lost rationale and severe side effects.
Her love for magic is even displayed by her study of magicology, which gave rise to tools like her mana blade and flying broom, which eventually led to the creation of things like self-heating tea pots and flying bikes along with clothes that allow their wearer to fly through the skies.
Euphilia is a prodigy born into a duke’s family with a responsibility to aid the royal family in whatever way they need. This eventually led to a disconnect between her father and her.
Parental neglect and the weight of responsibility led Euphilia to nurture a naive and hollow personality, becoming a simple means to carry out the royal family’s orders and aspirations without having any dreams and ambitions of her own, even though she’s a magic prodigy beloved by magic and the spirits themselves.
The Parents of both the characters go through significant changes as well Orphanse grows and realizes his mistakes in dumping responsibilities on his children, which leads to Algard leading a coup and Anis almost losing her identity and passion while becoming the queen.
Duke Grantz grows to know more about his daughter Euphilia and accompanies her throughout her journey to become a more independent individual unbound by any restrictions.
The animation in this anime is stunning in its own right, and the emotional moments are well-animated with proper music and ambiance. The action scenes are well choreographed and well executed to build up tension and deliver a satisfying conclusion in a compelling manner. The characters are animated in a dynamic manner giving good personality to each of them.
