Fresh reports suggest that Capcom’s long-rumored modern remake of the original Resident Evil is still in development, but fans may have to wait several more years before it becomes a reality. According to longtime Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, the project entered pre-production around August or September 2025 and has yet to move into full-scale development.
The information, shared by Dusk Golem on X, indicates that the remake remains in its conceptual phase while Capcom focuses its resources on other Resident Evil projects. Although Capcom has not officially confirmed the remake, the report has reignited speculation about the future of the survival horror franchise.
According to Dusk Golem’s post on X, the remake
“started early production nearly a year ago”
and is expected to enter full production only after work on Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is completed.
Resident Evil remake reportedly still in early development
Pre-production is typically where developers finalize ideas, build prototypes, and determine the project’s direction before expanding the team for full production. If the report is accurate, the Resident Evil remake is still a long way from release.
The insider also claimed that the Resident Evil Zero remake entered full production in late 2022, potentially making it the next remake to launch after the previously announced Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, which is currently targeting a 2027 release.
Based on Capcom’s recent release strategy of alternating between remakes and new numbered entries, a modern remake of the original Resident Evil could potentially arrive around 2029. However, this remains speculation until Capcom provides an official roadmap.

Rumors of another remake of the original Resident Evil have circulated for years. Earlier reports suggested Capcom hoped to launch the project alongside the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2026. Instead, the company released Resident Evil Requiem, leaving fans wondering if the classic game’s return had been delayed.
It’s also worth noting that Resident Evil already received a critically acclaimed remake for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, which was later remastered in 2015 for modern platforms. Unlike that faithful recreation, the rumored project is expected to follow the style of Resident Evil 2 Remake, featuring an over-the-shoulder camera, expanded environments, and updated gameplay systems.
As always, fans should approach the latest report with caution. While Dusk Golem has accurately leaked several Resident Evil projects in the past, the insider’s track record is mixed, and Capcom has yet to officially announce a new remake of the original game.
