Colleagues of Lance Reddick from Percy Jackson and The Olympians paid tribute to him, acknowledging one of his last on-screen moments, just under a year after his unexpected passing at the age of 60.
Before his passing, the accomplished actor had contributed to the first season finale of the teen show, recently released on Disney+. The episode included a substantial scene with lead actor Walker Scobell portraying the Greek god Zeus.
After the conclusion of the finale, a title card pays tribute, stating, “In loving memory of Lance Reddick.”
Reddick passed away at his home on March 17, 2023, shortly after the completion of Percy Jackson and The Olympians production. Noted as one of his final roles on IMDb, he also had upcoming appearances in Shirley and Ballerina.
A source acquired his death certificate on April 6, revealing ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease as the reported causes. Reddick’s family contested these findings, with attorney James Hornstein stating, “No autopsy was performed on Lance, and no medical examination during his lifetime indicated such conditions.”
“Lance was the most physically fit person I’ve ever known,” Hornstein continued. “He exercised daily at his home gym, including extensive cardio work, and the availability of gym facilities was a contractual requirement for his work away from home. He ate as if a dietician was monitoring his every meal. The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle.”
The statement concluded, “On behalf of Stephanie Reddick, the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”
At the time of his death, the actor’s representatives released a statement: “Acclaimed actor Lance Reddick passed away suddenly this morning from natural causes.”
“Lance was best known for his roles in The Wire, Bosch, Netflix’s Resident Evil and the John Wick films,” the statement continued. “He is survived by his wife Stephanie Reddick and children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick. Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.”
Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is available for streaming in its entirety on Disney+.
