Rachel Lindsay, best known for being the first Black lead on The Bachelorette, recently shared candid thoughts about her divorce from ex-husband Bryan Abasolo.
On her Higher Learning podcast, she explained why she doesn’t believe he should have received spousal support.
Although their divorce was finalized in January 2025, Lindsay admitted she’s still frustrated about the settlement.
She believes that alimony should depend on individual circumstances — and in their case, she says both partners made sacrifices during the marriage.

Lindsay was the one earning more, but she doesn’t think that alone should mean she owes him money indefinitely.
One of her biggest grievances is the idea that Abasolo gave up everything for her. According to Lindsay, he quit his job after winning The Bachelorette, and she actually relocated several times for him too. She says the claim that he sacrificed his career for her success is simply false.

The court had ordered Lindsay to pay over $13,000 monthly in temporary spousal support, plus legal and expert fees.
In total, she still owes him more than $400,000. She admitted she was open to a fair settlement but felt Abasolo was asking for far too much — including her retirement, investments, and even tax refunds.
Lindsay believes he’s capable of working — he’s licensed in multiple states — but is choosing not to, which she sees as exploiting the system.

She’s called him a “leech” before and stands by that, saying it wasn’t about needing support, but wanting as much as possible.
In the end, she feels the legal system failed to account for nuance and allowed resentment to drive the outcome. Despite the tension, she says the divorce is giving her a fresh start.
