Ava DuVernay’s much-loved series, Queen Sugar, will release the 9th episode of the final season. With the Bordelon family going through a lot of stuff in the recent episodes, fans can’t help but hope they get some sort of respite in between. A show that revolves around the lives of three siblings, Nova, Charley, and Ralph Angel, Queen Sugar is the kind of show that’ll completely immerse you in its world.
The series is inspired by Natalie Braszile’s book of the same name. Although some elements are similar, the story is much different and rather elongated to make it suitable as a show. With Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardener, and Kofi Siriboe playing the roles of the three siblings, the show was first aired in September 2016.
The latest and last season started airing on September 6th, 2022. It’s ordered to have around 13 episodes, so tune in on your television to know how Queen Sugar will end its 7-year-long run.
Queen Sugar: A Story of the Bordelon
The show deals with the lives of three siblings who inherit their family land after their father passes away. Nova is a journalist and tries her best to help people through her work. Charley has to move away from her city life after her husband gets involved in an affair. Ralph Angel is the youngest of all three and moves to the farm to try and earn enough to afford a living for himself & his son.
The siblings realize that there is much more to the land than they first assumed. Being in their father’s hometown shows them a different part of life. Constantly facing crop damage, land grabbers waiting to take over their family land, and facing racial discrimination, the show portrays such major issues that exist in America.
Queen Sugar also showcases the way African-American people are treated by everyone around them and how the Bordelons overcome such issues. They handle both the farm and their personal lives and, in the process, become a closer family that would do anything for each other.
Queen Sugar Season 7 Episode 8: Recap
The previous episode was aired on October 25th, 2022. Titled “Never To Be The Same,” the episode started with the co-op gearing up to save Cardale’s farm from flooding. Ralph, Angel, and Micah go to save the farm while Darla, Nova, and Billie stay back at the diner to make lunch for everyone.
Cardale realizes being in a co-op is much more beneficial since having so many people together saved his crops from flood damage. At the Diner, Violet receives a call from the Hospice, where a nurse informs her that Jimmy Dale will pass away soon. She advises Billie to talk to Jimmy and remove any burdens based on her anger toward him.
This causes Darla to think she shouldn’t hide Blue’s father’s identity from Ralph Angel. She suspects that Blue’s actual father could be Chase, the man who abused her. Violet tells her that she should say it when she’s ready.
When she goes to the swimming pool, Ralph Angel already knows about it. He is vexed that she hid it from him and said he doesn’t want to share his son with another man. Nova talks to Billie about Calvin appearing at her house the other night and how she didn’t give in to her desires.
They did an AMAZING job casting Chase. This man look like he could actually be Blue’s dad. I’m glad they didn’t just find a random beige man and slap him on the screen. #QueenSugar pic.twitter.com/EOY4i97mpk
