Queen Charlotte is an iconic Netflix series, a prequel to the even more iconic Bridgerton Series that came out in December. Bridgerton is a historical drama series based on a time that all of us had only heard stories about, from when Romeo-Julliet existed, and so did Elizabeth and Darcy. The storyline of Bridgerton is typically set in 1817, when we see the world through the eyes of a high society family, Bridgerton.
There is romance, friendship, mystery, and grace in the way things are carried out in the series. It became so famous with the audience that people just cannot get enough of it. From our Instagram feeds to our DM’S, everything has been filled with Bridgerton since the series came out in December 2020.
This is creator Chris Van Dusen’s first work that is based on a new setting and ideas that set people’s worlds on fire, and this series has gone viral for all the right reasons. It is more or less lighthearted in its approach toward high-end society, it has a diverse field of characters, and its costumes are breathtaking and fulfill all of our romance fantasies. What more could we ask for?!
The characters in the series are beautiful inside and out, their personalities flourishing. One such character has allured and put up a spell on people. There are a lot of people of color in the series, who are accepted to be a part of it all, and not highlighting the stark racism that was present during the times of Regency Britain, this was seen as a plus and a damaging factor for the series, which will be discussed briefly later on.
Queen Charlotte was considered to be the reason that this change happened in the universe of Bridgerton, giving both people of color and white the same respect that they deserved and also the positions of Dutchess and Dukes. Queen Charlotte, as can be guessed from her title, is the Queen of England and married Prince George III of England.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story came out on the fourth of May, 2023. Created by Shonda Rhimes, this was a much-awaited series, and though it is considered a mini-series with only six episodes for the first season, it did not fail to meet the expectations of the audience out there. It has only been a few days since it came out, but the critics have some excellent things to say about it. The Bridgerton series is known not only for its amazing costumes but also for the breathtaking taking locations where it is filmed. The filming for Queen Charlotte has known to be done from the end of March to the end of August 2023. That is six months of time and effort spent at making a beautiful at just as beautiful location. It was majorly shot in London, England, United States, so all the lucky ones can visit the places listed down below! Or maybe just take a trip there, and feel the vibes!
1. Merton College, London, England, United Kingdom
Charlotte did not know what was in store for her as she approached eighteen years of age. She suddenly received the notice that she will be marrying King George, the Prince of England. This would turn out to be a life-changing decision for Charlotte that was made for her by someone else. She did great things and brought forward revolutions as the Queen, but this would not have been known as she and George unwillingly if one had taken the vows for their marriage at a scene shot in Merton College. Merton College is a part of the University of Oxford and is a breathtaking sight to beholden!
2. Wilton House, London, England, United Kingdom
This particular place, The Wilton House, was initially built for the Earl of Pembroke around 400 years ago from today! In the Bridgerton universe, this place serves as a filming location for various scenes, but especially as Charlotte’s house as a child, Mirow Castle.
This location was also used to show the inside scenes of St.James Palace and many more. This is a place that can still be visited. It is so famous for its enchanting location that it has been used in different series as a filming location too, apart from the Bridgerton Series.
3. Ditton Manor, London, England, United Kingdom
While the interiors of Mirow Castle were shot at Wilton House, the exteriors of the house were shot at Ditton Manor. This is the place where Charlotte grew up as a child and turned out to be the person she was. This destination is used by many for wedding locations and is considered an amazingly built place, this place was initially known to belong to the lord of the Manor of Ditton.
How Do People Like It?
Bridgerton is a drama that highlights times during the Regency Britain, but Queen Charlotte being the prequel to the series, is based even before this time set in Bridgeron Universe. The story and plotline timing of Bridgerton Universe is loved by many and seen as a means of escapism from the dark world and into this quiet period, where things are fun and nice.
Who wouldn’t like to be a part of the royalty or experience some of its mysteries and let them be led o by happy endings and romance stories?! I definitely wouldn’t mind that. Even critically claimed to be a perfect mixture of what the true world was like, and an added bit of fantasy has brought the series to light.
Some questions cast people’s minds, and as hard as they might try to keep them away and hold on to the peace of mind that watching the series brings us, questions do come up. Based mostly on what Lady Danbury’s mouth said once during a Bridgerton season of how “The king fell in love with one of us” and united us all, meaning people of color and white people.
Many think that because topics of racism and such aren’t mentioned in the series, to completely not address it would have been a better go-to than mentioning something about how love between people of power could just have made it all right. During an interview, the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, says how they wanted to tell the story of how their love united the world in a very small way. She also said how they wanted to portray black women in strong roles and thus kept some of the main and most influential characters as people of color.
Apart from this, the series was given a rating of 95% by the critics and an 80% by the audience and is seen to grow as the number of people watching the series increases. Give it a watch and be swooned away in the world of romantics!
