Puella Magi Madoka Magica, also called by its fans Madoka Magica, is a very popular anime series that was created by Magical Quartet. The story of the series tells us about two middle school friends and their journey on how they become the magical girls that fight witches. After its first episode was aired on television in 2011, it became very popular among fans and received praise for its visuals, themes, and awesome soundtracks. Basically, it was a hit show. It sold more than 50,000 copies of Blu-ray Discs in Japan alone. Seeing its massive success, a lot of spin-offs were also made around this show.
After the adaptation of the anime from the manga, it had a total of only one season that consisted of 13 episodes, and from 2012 to 2013, about three movies were released, and the release date for the new upcoming movie hasn’t been announced yet.

1. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
The plot of the series is about two middle-school girls, Madoka Kaname, and Sayaka Miki, that are really close friends. One day, they both encountered a small creature that looked like a cat named Kyubey. It proposed to them an offer that they can get any of their wish granted, and in exchange, they will obtain magical powers and will be forced to fight some evil witches.
Before they could decide whether to accept the offer or not, they met an upperclassman from their school named Mami, who is also a magical girl. Mami offers to take both of them with her to show them the responsibilities that a person needs to take care of after becoming a witch.
Now it is up to Madoka and Sayaka to decide after witnessing the events and the dark reality behind the truth and origin of these witches and magical girls.

2. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Beginnings and Eternal
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie is a trilogy that consists of a total of three movies. The first two movies, Beginnings and Eternal, are basically just the re-telling of the original story found in the series, and the only change is that you will find our new and improved animations and new voice actors for the characters. This means that you have a choice to either watch the original series or rather see the two movies with better animation quality.

3. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion
This is the third and last movie in this trilogy, and unlike the previous movies, it has a fresh and new plot and storyline, which makes it even more exciting to watch. You can say that it basically acts as a sequel to the original series and also its first two movies.

The original storyline of this series had already ended after the release of the third and last movie of the trilogy. After that, a total of three side stories were introduced to the audience, which sometimes feels like they should be included between the movies as it does give reference to some events that occur during Rebellion.
Whatever the case may be, the official people have said that it should be considered as the events are happening in an alternate or parallel universe.
