Prime Video has officially revealed the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated Carrie television series, giving fans their first look at Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of Stephen King’s groundbreaking horror novel. The announcement was made during the streaming platform’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Flanagan also confirmed that all eight episodes will premiere simultaneously on October 7, 2026, in more than 240 countries and territories.
The upcoming series marks the first-ever television adaptation of King’s 1974 debut novel, expanding the story into an eight-episode format while introducing a modern perspective on one of horror’s most influential characters. Alongside the teaser, Prime Video also debuted new key art referencing the novel’s unforgettable prom sequence, hinting at the emotional and supernatural events that await viewers.
Mike Flanagan reimagines Stephen King’s classic horror story
According to Prime Video, the new adaptation presents Carrie as a “bold, timely, and surprising reinvention” of the coming-of-age horror classic. The story follows Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, a socially isolated teenager raised by her fiercely protective mother, Margaret White, portrayed by Samantha Sloyan.
After the sudden death of her father, Carrie enters public high school, where she struggles to survive relentless bullying amplified by the pressures of social media. As she faces increasing isolation, mysterious telekinetic powers begin to emerge, setting the stage for the tragedy that has defined the story for generations.
Prime Video says the series expands the original novel by exploring its characters in greater depth while examining “kindness versus cruelty—and whether we’re witnessing the making of a hero, a monster, or something far more complicated.”
Cast, creative team, and legacy of Carrie
Summer H. Howell secured the lead role after an extensive casting search involving more than 1,000 actors. She is joined by Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard, who portrays Principal Grayle.
The series is written and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, who also directs four episodes. Stephen King serves as an executive producer, with the project produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Originally published in 1974, Carrie launched Stephen King’s career and has sold more than 350 million books worldwide across his bibliography. The novel spent 14 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list and inspired Brian De Palma’s acclaimed 1976 film adaptation, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
