Tang Fu-jui’s drama Port of Lies, also known as The Attorney from Bachimen, is an intense Legal/Crime Investigation series that premiered earlier this year in July 2023. Set to feature controversial topics as its main plot, Port of Lies is based on a book Tang Fu-jui wrote years ago.
Being a Lawyer and director, Tang Fu-jui knew what he was doing when he started working on a legal drama like Port of Lies. With years of experience as a Lawyer, the creator wanted to showcase both the good and bad sides of the law and how it always strives to improve even if it seems unfair at first.
The storyline revolves around Tang Pao-chu, an Amis public defender who is tasked with fighting the case for an Indonesian man who ended up killing his boat’s captain. Abdul-Adl, who had arrived in the country in hopes of securing a good job began working as a crewmate on a boat despite the torture he faced from the Amis captain.
When it was found out that Abdul-Adl killed the captain and his whole family, the case was surely going to end in the death penalty. However, Tang Pao-chu is no ordinary lawyer. He has an eye for truth and soon finds out that Abdul-Adl was innocent. Port Of Lies shows us his journey in proving Abdul-Adl’s innocence along with his group Jin Ping and Leena.
Port Of Lies: About The Show
Port of Lies’ crew consists of Christopher Lee in the role of Tang Pao-chu, Regina Lei stars as the Indonesian nurse Leena, Chu Meng Hsuan plays Lian Jin Ping, Van Fan stars as Peng Zheng Min and Joy Pan plays the role of Chen Ling Qiu. Christopher Lee has previously starred in shows like Danger Zone, After The Stars, and Workers, all of which managed to become popular hits.
When Abdul-Adl started working on a boat, he was tortured by his captain for being a migrant worker. Things take a dark turn when the captain, who was Amis, was found dead on the boat along with his whole family. The suspicion unsurprisingly falls on Abdul. Tang Pao-chu is going to be Abdul’s lawyer, and he finds sufficient evidence suggesting that Abdul wasn’t the real killer, instead, it was some random leader of a fishery group named Zhen Xiong.
Zhen Xiong knew that Abdul would be framed so he proceeded with his criminal plans. Now that Tang Pao-chu knew the truth, he tries to fight the case along with Jin Ping and Leena. Jin Ping is an ambitious lawyer who learns from Tang Pao-chu, however, he is easily influenced by his manipulative dad. Leena is an Indonesian nurse who was hired to be a translator between Abdul and the others.
Tang Pao-chu faces several setbacks and threats from the Law, showing just how corrupt and discriminatory it was. Despite the backlash, Tang Pao-chu continues to fight for the truth and makes sure that his innocent client does not face the death penalty for something he didn’t do.
