Nintendo has sparked fresh speculation about the future of the Pokémon Gold and Silver era after a new Pokémon Pokopia teaser appeared to reference Johto and the second-generation games. However, Nintendo has not officially announced a new Pokémon Gold and Silver remake, meaning the current discussion remains based on fan interpretation.
The teaser shows a scene featuring Cyndaquil, one of the original Johto starter Pokémon, while a character resembling the rival from Pokémon Gold and Silver appears near Professor Elm’s house. The accompanying line,
“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other is gold,”
has added further fuel to the speculation.
Could Pokémon Pokopia Be Heading to Johto?

The biggest theory is that Pokémon Pokopia could eventually introduce Johto as a new area. Nintendo has already confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 life simulation game will receive additional content, with its official store page listing further DLC planned beyond its first expansion.
Other possibilities have also emerged, including a new Pokémon Let’s Go title inspired by Gold and Silver or a Nintendo Switch release of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. At present, though, none of these projects have been confirmed.
The timing has fueled more speculation, as Pokémon is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have already used the anniversary year to expand the franchise with new releases and continued support for Pokémon Pokopia.
For now, fans will have to wait for an official explanation of the teaser. The references to Johto are certainly difficult to ignore, but whether they point to new Pokémon Pokopia content, a remake, or something else entirely remains unknown.
