Phantom Blade Zero is shaping up to offer an extensive combat experience, with developer S-Game confirming a large selection of bosses and weapons for its upcoming action game. Director Liang Qiwei, also known as Soulframe, has revealed that players can expect at least 50 bosses, alongside 30 main weapons and approximately 20 secondary weapons.

The figures suggest that weapon collection and boss encounters will play a major role in the game’s progression. However, the developer has hinted that these numbers may not represent the final content available at launch.

PHANTOM BLADE ZERO WILL FEATURE AT LEAST 50 BOSSES

During a group interview with Japanese gaming outlet 4Gamer, Qiwei discussed the scale of the game’s boss roster and weapon selection.

“Actually, there are more than 30 units. There are 30 main weapons and about 20 secondary weapons, all of which you can obtain by defeating the boss,”

the director explained.

He added that the game would feature at least 50 bosses, noting that the final number could be higher. This suggests that defeating powerful enemies will be closely connected to obtaining new equipment, giving players additional reasons to explore the game’s combat encounters.

The weapon selection also indicates that players will have multiple ways to approach battles rather than relying on a single fighting style throughout the adventure.

KUNG FU PUNK STYLE WILL SHAPE ENEMY VARIETY

Qiwei also explained how S-Game plans to maintain a consistent identity across the game’s different enemies. Phantom Blade Zero combines traditional Chinese martial arts influences with original designs and mechanical elements under what the developers call a “kung fu punk” aesthetic.

“The sense of unity comes from the style of kung fu punk,”

Qiwei said during the interview. He noted that enemies would vary in size, equipment, and combat approach, including shield-bearing fighters and opponents who ride horses.

The director also indicated that enemy variety would increase as players progressed through the latter half of the game. Different physical characteristics and fighting strategies should encourage players to adapt rather than rely on one approach for every encounter.

S-Game has also confirmed that players will have greater freedom when experimenting with the game’s arsenal. Weapon upgrades can be reset, allowing players to transfer a weapon’s upgrade level to another weapon instead of having to commit permanently to a particular choice.

This system could make the extensive weapon roster more practical, particularly for players who want to experiment with different combat styles as they encounter increasingly varied bosses.

According to PlayStation’s official gameplay overview, the game features more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons known as Phantom Edges. The official description also highlights weapon upgrades and accessories that allow players to customize their combat builds.

Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC. With at least 50 bosses and a broad collection of weapons planned, S-Game is positioning its action RPG around varied encounters and adaptable combat rather than a limited selection of recurring enemies.
