Rachel Lindsay’s Bachelorette season is like a legend in Bachelor Nation, marked as one of the best. She was all classy and clear about what she wanted, not willing to settle.
Peter Kraus was in her top two, and their breakup hit hard. Since their Bachelorette journey, they’ve both been killing it. Rachel’s hosting shows and speaking out on racial issues in Bachelor Nation, while Peter’s doing his own thing outside the Bachelor bubble, running his gym.
Loads of fans thought Rachel and Peter were meant to be when they watched her Bachelorette season. The big issue was that Peter wasn’t into proposing at the end.
He just wanted more time to get to know each other, but Rachel was after a ring and someone sure about her. That’s what Bryan Abasolo, her now-husband, brought to the table.
Peter finally relented and said he would propose so that he wouldn’t lose her – but Rachel didn’t like that idea because she felt he would resent her. So they decided to say goodbye. As Rachel walked out the door, Peter was wracked with sobs. “What’s wrong with me?” he asked as the camera eagerly lingered.
On their date, Rachel invited Peter to the fantasy suite. But when she found out Peter wasn’t up for proposing and just wanted to keep things going after the show, it led to a super emotional breakup.
Rachel, from Dallas, moved on and got engaged to Bryan Abasolo in the finale. They tied the knot in August 2019 and are now living together in Los Angeles, California.
Peter doesn’t bring up his time on the reality dating show much. He even said no to being the Bachelor three times before Arie Luyendyk Jr. finally took on the role for season 22.
Peter and Rachel Bachelorette Break Up
Rachel went on to end things with Peter in a gut-wrenching scene. They both admitted they loved each other, but for her, that love had to come with a fake proposal on a fake reality show.
There are those moments when you wonder if someone might break with tradition and say, “Here’s a great guy I have a connection with, and he doesn’t kiss me like he’s trying to devour my soul, and his mom didn’t threaten to kill me if I broke his heart… maybe I should pick him.” But not Rachel.
Instead, they bawled their eyes out to each other for what felt like an eternity. She walked away, and he tore off his sweater to use as a tear-wiper.
Host Chris Harrison is always going on about dramatic rose ceremonies, but that breakup was honestly one of the most intense scenes I’ve ever seen on TV, whether reality or scripted.
It felt raw, it felt emotional, and it kinda made Rachel and Bryan’s eventual proposal seem a bit meh.
Any Reason for Their Split?
Rachel and Peter called it quits because Rachel wanted him to pop the question, but he wasn’t ready. He needed more time to be absolutely sure before diving into the serious commitment of engagement.
It’s kinda normal, but the whole dating process on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette is like it’s on steroids. Rachel’s point, which she made on the show and repeated in an interview with E! News, is that if Peter can’t keep up with the turbo-charged pace, then maybe he’s not Bachelor material.
Now, if she doesn’t think Peter’s up for the Bachelor gig, who does she reckon should take the lead? Maybe Eric Bigger, the gentleman who finished third and is pretty much a class act in Bachelor Nation, would be a good choice. Or how about Dean Unglert, who came in fourth and had a solid fan following?
Well, brace yourself because the surprise answer is none other than Alex Bordyukov, the guy who came in seventh. Yep, that Russian dude with the wild hair.
Why Did Bryan and Rachel Move to Splitsville, USA?
We got a little hint that things weren’t great when Rachel spilled on the “Viall Files” podcast in late December. She talked about how they were living “totally different lives” because of their hectic work schedules. Bryan puts in 12-hour days solo while she’s got more “free time.”
Bryan ended up filing for divorce and broke the news on Instagram, saying, “After more than 4 years of marriage, Rachel and I have made the difficult decision to part ways and start anew.”
He even threw in the line, “Many of you know me as a chiropractor,” making it the best divorce announcement ever. They don’t have kids, but he’s asking for spousal support. Maybe his chiropractor gig is the secret sauce.
Now, fingers crossed that Peter’s sliding into Rachel’s DMs, and she’s checking out flights to Wisconsin. Go badgers!
After a breakup, feelings can get hurt, no doubt. But time is like the ultimate healer for old wounds. Right now, it seems Peter and Rachel haven’t exactly become buddies, even if there’s no serious bad blood between them.
Rachel’s got all the closure she needs, and Peter genuinely hopes his ex is doing great. It might not be the fairy-tale Bachelorette ending fans were hoping for, but here’s hoping Peter and Rachel can each move on, whether as friends or just from a distance.
