Pearl Abyss has suffered a significant stock market decline following the release of Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown. Despite renewed interest in the open-world action game and its first major DLC, the South Korean developer’s shares dropped 7.29% during the first trading session after the expansion launched.
According to Inven Global’s report, Pearl Abyss shares were trading at 32,450 won on the morning of November 2, representing a decline of 2,550 won from the previous trading session. The stock opened at 34,850 won before falling as low as 31,550 won amid substantial selling pressure.
The decline was particularly notable because South Korea’s broader stock market was moving in the opposite direction. The KOSPI gained 0.54%, while the KOSDAQ increased by 0.28% during the same period. This suggests that Pearl Abyss faced company-specific selling pressure rather than simply following a wider market downturn.
The timing also drew attention because Crimson Desert had received renewed visibility on Steam following its first downloadable content release.
Crimson Desert DLC Boosts Steam Sales Despite Pearl Abyss Stock Decline
The stock decline came despite encouraging sales rankings for Charting the Unknown. Pearl Abyss released the expansion globally on October 30, approximately seven months after the base game’s debut.
By November 2, the DLC had climbed 62 positions to seventh place on South Korea’s Steam Top Sellers chart, measured by revenue. The base game also experienced a significant recovery, moving up 28 positions to third place domestically.
The international rankings showed similar momentum, with Crimson Desert entering the global Top Sellers chart at ninth place and its expansion reaching 18th.
Interestingly, the base game performed better than the DLC despite costing considerably more. In South Korea, the main game was priced at 79,800 won, compared with 27,800 won for the expansion. Its higher revenue ranking suggests that the DLC’s release may have encouraged new players to purchase the original game rather than simply attracting existing owners.
The expansion also received a reasonably positive response from Steam users. At the time of writing, approximately 72% of 870 domestic reviews were favorable, giving it a Mostly Positive rating.

Investors Had Already Priced In the DLC’s Launch
Market analysts believe Pearl Abyss shares had already benefited from expectations surrounding the expansion before its actual release.
On September 4, when the company announced the DLC’s release schedule, its stock surged 11.47%, closing at 34,500 won. Despite a subsequent two-week delay, shares largely remained within the 34,000–35,000 won range.
With the launch finally taking place on October 30, investors may have viewed the announcement as an opportunity to secure profits after the earlier increase. This helps explain why positive Steam rankings did not translate into an immediate stock market recovery.
DokeV’s 2028 Release Raises Questions About Pearl Abyss’ Future
Another concern for investors is the gap between Pearl Abyss’ major releases. Crimson Desert achieved considerable commercial success, selling two million copies on its first day, five million within 26 days, and six million within 83 days.
However, the company’s next major project, DokeV, is not expected to launch until the second half of 2028. This leaves Pearl Abyss with a substantial wait before its next major game release.
Financial expectations have also weakened. Market consensus projected third-quarter revenue of 124.9 billion won and operating profit of 44.2 billion won, representing quarter-on-quarter declines of 35.1% and 34.6%, respectively.
Pearl Abyss has also announced shareholder-return measures, including its first dividend based on 2026 earnings and a 100 billion won treasury share buyback planned before the end of the year.
Nevertheless, the company’s shares remained approximately 13% below their December 30 closing price of 37,400 won and 58% below their 52-week high of 77,400 won.
The contrasting performance highlights the difference between a successful game release and investor confidence in a developer’s longer-term earnings. While Charting the Unknown has brought renewed attention to Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss still faces questions about sustaining its commercial momentum beyond its current flagship title.
