Pearl Abyss could see its revenue rebound by 33% in the fourth quarter of 2026 as the developer prepares to release Crimson Desert’s first paid downloadable content (DLC) on October 30. According to financial projections from Meritz Securities, the South Korean studio could generate 159.4 billion won, or approximately $113 million, in fourth-quarter revenue as it looks to sustain interest in its open-world action-adventure game.

The forecast follows a slowdown in Crimson Desert sales after its successful March launch. Although the game surpassed six million copies sold worldwide by June, its initial commercial momentum has weakened. The upcoming DLC could provide an additional revenue source, but the projected recovery remains an analyst estimate rather than a confirmed financial result.

CRIMSON DESERT DLC COULD HELP PEARL ABYSS RECOVER IN Q4

Pearl Abyss is scheduled to release its first paid expansion, Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown, on October 30, two weeks later than its original October 16 schedule. The DLC is priced at 27,800 won and is expected to introduce new areas, underwater exploration, additional combat encounters, and story content.

The expansion gives existing players another reason to return to the world of Pywel while creating an opportunity for Pearl Abyss to generate additional sales without launching an entirely new game. Its performance could be especially important after the decline in revenue following the game’s launch quarter.

According to the official Crimson Desert website, Pearl Abyss announced the revised release schedule to allow additional development time for the expansion. The October 30 launch is now a key date for players awaiting the game’s first paid content update.

PEARL ABYSS FACES SLOWING SALES AFTER CRIMSON DESERT’S STRONG DEBUT

The expected fourth-quarter recovery follows a difficult period for Pearl Abyss. The company reported first-quarter revenue of 328.5 billion won and operating profit of 212.1 billion won after Crimson Desert launched in March. Second-quarter revenue subsequently fell to 192.6 billion won, while operating profit dropped to 67.6 billion won.

Revenue generated by Crimson Desert declined from 266.5 billion won in the first quarter to 136.1 billion won in the second. Despite exceeding six million copies sold worldwide by June, the game has struggled to maintain the sales pace recorded during its initial release period.

Meritz Securities forecasts third-quarter revenue of 119.6 billion won, approximately $85 million, and operating profit of 33.5 billion won, or around $24 million. These estimates represent sequential declines of 37% and 50%, respectively.

The figures are projections rather than confirmed third-quarter results. They nevertheless illustrate why Pearl Abyss is looking to its upcoming DLC to generate additional sales.

Q4 OPERATING PROFIT COULD REACH $35.8 MILLION

Alongside its projected 33% revenue increase, Meritz Securities expects Pearl Abyss’ fourth-quarter operating profit to reach 50.4 billion won, approximately $35.8 million. That would represent a 50% increase over the third-quarter forecast.

However, the expected improvement may not be enough to eliminate the company’s longer-term financial concerns. Pearl Abyss lowered its full-year revenue and operating profit guidance in August as the outlook for Crimson Desert changed following its launch period.

The company’s next major release could also take time to contribute meaningfully to its finances. DokeV, an open-world adventure game featuring creature collection, is reportedly targeting a launch in the second half of 2028. This could leave Pearl Abyss relying on its existing games and additional content to maintain revenue growth in the meantime.

Mirae Asset Securities analyst Lim Hee-seok cautioned in an August report that the DLC alone might not deliver a substantial recovery. As quoted by The Elec, he said, “It will be difficult to expect a meaningful revenue rebound from the release of Crimson Desert DLC alone.”

For now, Charting the Unknown represents an important opportunity for Pearl Abyss to bring players back to Pywel and improve its fourth-quarter performance. Whether the expansion can sustain interest beyond its launch will be a key factor in determining how much of the projected recovery materializes.
