Parallel World Pharmacy Episode 8 is set to release this weekend. Parallel World Pharmacy is a Japanese light novel series written by Liz Takayama and illustrated by keepout, which began serialization in July 2015 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The MangaWalker website ran a manga adaptation by Sei Takano in November 2016, and Media Factory published eight volumes under its MF Books label in January 2016.
We see in episode 7 that pharma easily wards off the magical attacks of Grand Inquisitor Salomon and his fellow priests, who believe him to be an evil spirit in human form, while he pleads with them that he has no intention of harming anyone. They interpret him as an incarnation of their deity once they see the mark of Panactheos on him. As a result of the attack, the Pharmacy prevents Salomon from committing suicide and performs emergency surgery to mend his severely broken leg. In gratitude for saving his life, Salomon visits Pharma after recovering and advancing to the rank of bishop months later. He assures Pharma that he will keep his existence a secret from the Diocese.
Parallel World Pharmacy Episode 7 Review
Given how things ended last week, I think this episode went about as well as expected. Overall, I think the show has gone downhill after its initial promise, although to some extent, my knowledge of the field colors my opinion. In the domain of medical/health-related content, the show shines when it concentrates on the pharmacy. However, it bogs down and tracks badly when it tries to tackle topics that pharmacists don’t deal with, like orthopedic surgery. Also, Falma shouldn’t be doing stuff like that, so the series’ strength is diluted without any reason. That’s not an issue with the series, which is that its narrative style, themes, and characterization aren’t nearly as sophisticated as the technical elements of the show. In my opinion, the latter creates a strong expectation of more mature writing, but I’m not seeing it yet.
In contrast, Falma’s character suffers heavily from several familiar MC tropes. The show has developed a bad habit of setting up high tension/stakes situations and then rolling them out a lot of the time in OP MC isekai style. It’s not to say that the show is always like this, as some parts are better than others, but instead, I’m disappointed by the lack of maturity in the writing overall. Yet perhaps that’s a little unfair to the author since it’s quite possible that the editors were trying to make sure that things remained accessible to a younger audience and that they retained the usual sort of isekai beats since the pharmacist knowledge was already going to overwhelm the lay audience.
It may be more appropriate to say I am disappointed that the early promise has not been realized. I am looking forward to seeing how Farma will make his products more accessible to those who will not be able to spend all day waiting in line at his shop. I love that this series touches on medical economics as well.

About Parallel World Pharmacy
As Kanji Yakutani, a famous medical researcher awakens in a 10-year-old’s body after being struck by lightning in Parallel World Pharmacy. He dedicates himself to discovering new treatments after losing his younger sister to an undiagnosed illness. Falma, reborn as Falma, reveals that the custodian deity of medicine lives within him. Upon discovering that he has reincarnated as Falma, another descendant of the De Médicis family, Falma discovers that he has been reincarnated into a medieval setting.
He quickly discovers the horrendous state of psychology in this world, where the wealthy can afford, at best, detrimental and, at worst, ineffective treatments. A child possessed the fabled divine ability of synthesis and elimination, as well as the ability to recognize physical diseases instantly in other individuals. In the San Fleuve Kingdom, Falma uses his divine gifts to gain the professional pharmacy degree that he eventually earns, so he can make healthcare much more accessible for everyone. Falma earns the admiration of the imperial court as a pharmacist due to his combination of modern knowledge and divine gifts.
