Kate Middleton may have been absent from public view since news of her “planned abdominal surgery” in January, with her recovery expected to keep her away from official duties and public appearances until Easter. However, she remains in the public consciousness.
A palace aide provided a brief update on her well-being when questioned at an event at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, stating,
“The Princess of Wales continues to be doing well.”
As anticipated, Kate Middleton was not present at the event, which was a memorial service for Greece’s late King Constantine II, who passed away in January 2023 at the age of 82.
An unexpected absence was noted, though: Middleton’s husband, Prince William, was also missing. William had been scheduled to give a reading at the service, as Constantine was his godfather and a close friend of his father, King Charles III.
William’s sudden absence has been attributed solely to “personal reasons,” with sources indicating that he contacted the Greek royal family prior to the event to express his regrets for the change in plans.
Charles, too, was absent from the service, as anticipated, owing to his ongoing treatment following a surprise cancer diagnosis revealed in January.
While the monarch has officially resumed his duties, his public agenda remains uncertain, pending further treatment and guidance from his medical team.
Middleton, 42, has been recuperating at Adelaide Cottage, the couple’s residence within the royal family’s Windsor Castle estate, since her discharge from a London hospital after a week-plus of inpatient care following the surgery.
The palace has not provided further details about the specific nature of her procedure or any underlying conditions, aside from confirming it was non-cancerous.
It remains unclear whether William’s absence from Tuesday’s memorial service was linked to his wife’s or father’s ongoing health concerns.
