If you’re a car person who loves watching anime, Overtake! is the perfect anime for you. Animated by Troyca Studios and directed by Ei Aoki (Id: Invaded, Fate/Zero), this anime will soon start airing its episodes globally.
Racing or car-themed animated series are not so common, although iconic ones like Initial D do show up from time to time. Overtake! is an F4 auto-racing series, where we are introduced to Komaki Motors, a family-run automobile shop that is seen competing in the F4 series regularly.
Getting into the F4 competition is all about the driver’s skills and money. Komaki Motors, run by Futoshi Komaki and Mako Komaki, is not that well known within the other groups, since it’s just a family shop. However, competing for them is the cold and charismatic 16-year-old, Haruka Asahina.
Haruka is an impressive race car driver who proves that one doesn’t need a big company backing him up to reach the top of the competition. As if the interesting plot wasn’t enough, Overtake! has been licensed to use their logo by the FIA, the real organizer of Formula 1 races.
Overtake!: About The Anime
Written by Ayumi Sekine, Overtake! is a motorsports anime series that’s inspired by real-life F4 races where junior drivers from a region or nation compete for the ultimate prize
. Our main character, Haruka Asahina, is 16, so he got into the F4 races after being backed by Komaki Motors.
Komaki Motors is run by the father-daughter duo, Futoshi Komaki and Mako Komaki. No other player exists in their group besides Haruka, but it doesn’t matter because Haruka is enough to get them the recognition they deserve.
Major manufacturers always look forward to dealing with well-known companies. Still, Komaki Motors doesn’t make it to their list, so it’s all up to Haruka to prove these money-focused manufacturers wrong. Even though he’s just in high school, Haruka isn’t fazed when he has to compete with top racers from other groups, since he believes in himself and his ability to win.
A photographer who goes by the name of Koya Madoka manages to run into Haruka Asahina while he is at the Fuji International Speedway, looking for an interesting story to cover.
That’s where Koya’s endless support for Haruka begins, although Haruka claims he doesn’t need anyone cheering for him to win.
Every episode of Overtake! Will be featuring these characters trying to compete and win in all kinds of thrilling races.
It will be one of the best Motorsports anime seen in a while because Overtake!’s director, Ei Aoki, and character designer, Masako Matsumoto, have done their best to appeal to automobile enthusiasts worldwide.
