Kouya promised Haru to look for a sponsor who would understand F4 and Komaki motors as well as his skills as a racer. Kouya proposed a short loan plan to them in the previous episode.
Viewers are excited to find out if Kouya will manage to get a sponsor for Komaki Motors in Overtake! Episode 3. Kouya requested Mr Komaki to allow him to sponsor their team because he wanted to support them.
Everyone at Komaki Motor looked at Kouya’s pictures; they thought he was a pro. Haru returned from school, and everyone informed him that they had a guest.
Kouya greeted him at the door. Mr Komaki informed Haru that Kouya wanted to sponsor their team because he was impressed with his driving skills.
They told him Kouya was a great photographer in Tokyo and showed him the pictures he took of Haru. But after taking a look at the picture, Haru felt embarrassed and tried to break his camera.
Kouya told him he needed the camera for work, and he had not even paid for the installment. Kouya told Haru he was impressed with him during the race.
Because he did not expect that a guy who raced alone would give such a good fight to his fellow racers, Haru told Kouya he had dropped out of that race. Kouya explained to him that he was not referring to that race.
He mentioned that Haru’s fighting spirit reminded him of good times. So he decided to do something about that. Haru thought that Kouya was a big shot back in Japan and probably made a lot of money because he wanted to sponsor him.
Kouya told him he was not one of those big photographers, so he did not make much money from his gigs. Haru informed Kouya about the estimated sponsoring cost and told him that he believed that he was not eligible to sponsor them.
He did not know the kind of money required to sponsor their team. He mentioned that Kouya’s spirit and enthusiasm alone were not going to make their team win the tournament.
Overtake! Episode 2 Recap
Mr Komaki apologized to Kouya on behalf of Haru and mentioned that he also assumed Kouya made a lot of money because he was a Tokyo-based photographer.
Kouya apologized to him for giving them false expectations. Mr. Komaki told him he was just joking and mentioned that he was still happy that Kouya was interested in sponsoring them.
Mr Komaki explained to Kouya that people are not interested in motorsports as they used to back in their days and told him about Haru’s father, who was a driver during that time.
They used to get along well because their families were close. So when Haru’s mother was admitted to the hospital, they looked after Haru.
So when she passed away, Mr Komaki quit the team to take over the company. During that time, Haru’s father got into an accident during a race and passed away, so Haru started living with his relatives.
But one day, he walked for an entire two days to reach their office and told them he wanted to become a racer like his father.
He was just a grade school student back then, but he expressed his desire to join the team. Kouya felt terrible for proposing the idea of sponsoring their team after hearing about what Haru does to make money for the team.
