Onimusha: Way of the Sword has sold 1.78 million copies, while total sales across the Onimusha franchise have surpassed 11 million units, according to Capcom’s FY2026 first-half financial report.
The latest figures cover the six months ended September 30, 2026, and highlight the strong launch performance of the series’ first new instalment in more than two decades.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword Drives the Series Past 11 Million Sales
The new game stars Miyamoto Musashi in a dark fantasy version of Edo-era Kyoto, where players face monstrous enemies using sword-based combat. Capcom describes it as the first new title in the franchise in over 20 years, making its commercial performance an important step in bringing the dormant series back to a wider audience.
Capcom’s September 7 announcement said the game had already sold more than one million units on its first day of release. At that point, total sales across the franchise had passed 10 million. The latest financial report now places the game above 1.7 million sales and the franchise at 11 million units.

The game also received two awards at Gamescom Awards 2026 in August, which Capcom highlighted in its financial report as part of the title’s positive reception. The company is using new releases to revive established properties and expand the value of its existing game franchises.
Onimusha’s sales contributed to a strong first half for Capcom’s Digital Contents business. According to the company’s financial report, Capcom sold 36.86 million game units across 260 titles in 239 countries and regions during the six-month period, up from 23.85 million units in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
The publisher also reported strong results for PRAGMATA, its new science-fiction action-adventure game, which surpassed 2.7 million sales. Meanwhile, established franchises continued to generate sales through their existing game catalogues, supporting Capcom’s strategy of combining new releases with its long-running properties.
For Onimusha, reaching 11 million franchise sales gives Capcom a stronger foundation for reintroducing the series to modern audiences. The latest figures also show that Way of the Sword has become a significant contributor to the franchise’s return after more than 20 years without a new instalment.
