We have One Piece Chapter 1088 Full Summary & Raw Scans, and it is absolutely insane, and today we are talking about it. First of all, we have the title of the chapter, “The Last Lesson.” In addition to that, we are also getting a color spread of the upcoming live-action series.
On this page, we can see Luffy, Usopp, Nami, Zoro, and Sanji in the fighting pose and in the front row. However, we also have the faces of Shanks, Buggy, Kuro, Garp, Arlong, Mihawk, Koby, and Krieg in the background. This also comes up along with the sentence, “Tomorrow Studio x Netflix.”
This is actually pretty huge because even in the One Piece live-action trailer, we didn’t get to see a majority of these villains, but now, they are just casually throwing all of them out in the color spread.
Assuming these are the real actors, maybe we get to the chapter. It is a drawing of Luffy, and I hope that’s not what it is; I kind of hope it is the actors that are on this color spread. If that happens, this is going to be really dope because I do wonder what Arlong and Fishmen will look like in the live-action myself.
One Piece Chapter 1088 Full Summary & Raw Scans
Going into the chapter, though, we find out that it opens up with a flashback of what happened at the old Marineford. We see that Garp is taking a class for all the new joiners of the Marines. In this class, we also see Koby, and it was his first lesson as well, and he has the same appearance as we saw of him at the East Blue Arc.
A Flashback from old Marineford
During this class, we see that Garp asks everyone a question. He asks, “If you guys have a boat and one kid and one old man get stranded on a random island, but the boat that you have can only hold two people… who would you save?”
After that, we see Koby, who, while answering the question, says that he will get out of the boat and give it to the old man so that he can save the kid as well as himself. However, Garp doesn’t like that and throws chalk at Koby and says that he is wrong.
While explaining to him, Garp says that the old man doesn’t have a long time to live anyway, and that is why you can just let the old man die.
Along with that, he also mentions that they are all training to be in the Marines, and they are going to help people in the future, and that is why they and the kid have a more future than the old man, and only they and the kid must live on.

This is pretty much Oda telling us that it is okay if Garp falls here at Hachinosu because this isn’t his Era anymore. Just like how Kaidou and Big Mom fell, Garp has to fall eventually, and what matters is the legacy they leave behind.
Whether that’s Luffy, Dragon, Koby, or the SWORD members, Garp is fighting for something here, just like back when he showed up at Hachinosu, and he wants to save Koby because he is the “Future of the Marines.”
Garp doesn’t have that future anymore. He has lived through that. He has had kids, he has had grandkids, and he has lived a full life. I loved how we get this little flashback in the beginning because it shows that Garp wouldn’t be bitter if he were to fall here because as long as he saves Koby and the boys, then his mission is a success, or at least that is how I am reading into it.
On to the next bullet point, we are still in the flashback, where we see that Garp is scolded by one of the Marine Instructors. He also warns Garp to never teach this kind of thing to them ever again because he believes that the lives of all people are equal and have the same value to them. However, Garp still disagrees with him and mentions that the future of the young guys does not have any limit.
What was Blackbeard’s Demand At the Amazon Lily?
In addition to that, we also get one more flashback, and this time it was from the Amazon Lily after the Hancock incident a few days ago. This was when we found out that although Blackbeard agreed to leave the place, however, in return he is taking a Battle Ship and 800 Marines with him.
During this, we see that Vice Admiral Yamakaji was only watching Blackbeard doing all this because he could not attack or fight him as there was not any permission to fight a Yonko from the Marine HQ.
However, at the same time, Koby comes forward and offers Blackbeard to take him as a prisoner instead of his men. Not only that, but Vice Admiral Yamakaji also allows him to do that because he is a member of the SWORD.
Everything is making so much sense now because, going back to the Amazon Lily incident; we get an answer of how Koby and Koby alone get captured here and what happened. Rayleigh was there, Hancock was there, Vice Admiral Yamakaji was there, and how Koby got captured by Blackbeard.
It turns out that Koby offered himself up. He went against the lesson of Garp that we saw just a couple of minutes ago. It’s kind of insane it is a very much kind of Koby thing to do. Now, if Garp were to make out of Hachinosu, I feel like Garp would beat the heck out of Koby for not listening to his teachings.
Also, can we just talk about how crazy it is that just Akainu didn’t give the order to fight Blackbeard, that Yamakaji and Koby just have to watch Blackbeard kidnap 800 People? That is actually insane!!
I am surprised that Blackbeard didn’t try to take the Seraphim as well. However, yes, it does make sense as if they did attack Blackbeard at that time, they would eventually start a war, and it would get too messy as they would have to use too many resources.
Koby against the giant hand
Back to the present time, we see that everyone who is on the battleship of Garp was panicking because when they were trying to shoot at the giant hand, there was not any luck, and they could not stop it.
We see Koby saying that if that hand comes down, hundreds of their people are gonna die, and he asks Garp what they should do. With this, Vice Admiral Garp says that if it is the three of them, then everyone can be saved.
With this, Garp gives orders to each of them and also says that he will create an opening for them. He mentions that Koby must have to destroy the grant hand, Gris must protect the battleship from all the falling debris of the giant hand, and Helmeppo must cover both Koby and Grus.
However, Koby gets shocked and says that he cannot destroy something that big in size, but Garp cuts him off.
With this, Garp teaches them saying that in battle, decisions must be made suddenly. This was when all three of them immediately moved and started doing what Garp had ordered. However, we also see that the pirates started laughing and say that Koby, Grus, and Helmeppo cannot do anything without Garp.
Later, with this, Grus asks Koby why Garp has entrusted him to destroy the giant hand because he thinks that Koby must have some bomb or explosive to destroy something like that. However, Koby reveals that he does not have anything like that, but he will figure something out.
During this, we also see that when Helmeppo tries to block one of the bullets that the pirates are shooting, he gets caught in an explosion.
This was when Garp stood up and faced Kuzan one more time. Not only that, he also punches Kuzan and throws him to the ground. During this, he was moving so fast that even Kuzan was surprised by that. During this, we see that Garp jumps on the roof that is near the skull and attacks it. He uses his new attack called “Galaxy Divide” and injures Pizarro.
This is crazy for a lot of different reasons, I love seeing the teamwork in the Marines, and I love seeing Koby, Grus, and Helmeppo actually work together because it is something we don’t get often. Even when the Straw Hats, I am not saying that they are disjointed, but they are kind of separated.
In addition to that, we know that Garp can easily destroy that hand, without a doubt, but instead of him doing it himself, he tells Koby to do it. Koby, who right now doesn’t know how he is gonna do it, and he sent Koby on that mission, and I love this because it shows you how much he trusts Koby and how much faith he has in Koby.
