The fourth season of Murders in the Building will not be the first to take place in New York City. Living in the Arconia apartment building in New York City initially drew the comedy’s three stars together, and their love of true-crime podcasts motivated them to investigate murders that had happened in their building.
This urban backdrop has been essential to the series, from different neighbourhoods in New York City to the significance of Broadway in the third season. But with several supporting characters going to Los Angeles and the three discussing trips there, the season 3 finale hinted at a possible site relocation.
Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich announced that Only Murders in the Building season 4 will take place in Los Angeles rather than New York City in an interview with Deadline. Check out Erwich’s remarks below:
To watch Steve, Martin, and Selena leave the apartment complex and travel to Los Angeles is something I’m looking forward to.
I’m incredibly happy about how John Hoffman used the canvas of Broadway to depict what I believe was one of the most unusual seasons you’ve ever seen. Now, that same unique perspective on Only Murders will be transferred to Los Angeles.
Why Only Murders in the Building’s Move To Los Angeles A Good Thing?
In the season three finale of Only Murders in the Building, there was a cliffhanger involving the death of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), Charles-Haden Savage’s (Steve Martin) longstanding companion and stunt double.
The question of whether Charles was the real target or Sazz was the shooter’s target has previously been raised. Given Charles’s work as a television actor and Sazz’s background as a stunt double, Los Angeles is the ideal place to investigate this mystery.
Like the big deaths in the previous seasons, Sazz’s death still happened in the Arconia, but the real inquiry can take place somewhere else. This implies that while the title of the show and the name of the trio’s podcast remain functional, the Hulu comedy will feel new and adapt as it moves into its fourth season in a new location.
For New Yorkers Charles, Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), Los Angeles will probably provide many new comedy opportunities and obstacles.
Even before Sazz passed away, there had been discussions about going to Los Angeles for professional reasons, with Meryl Streep’s Loretta Durkin and Jesse Williams’ Tobert.
Oliver and Mabel talked about seeing their respective partners in Los Angeles at the season 3 finale. Hopefully, Streep and Williams can continue to be a part of the show now that season 4 has been set to take place in Los Angeles.
Rather than having Oliver and Mabel move on from these ostensibly promising romances, only Murders in the Building can delve deeper into Oliver’s connection with Loretta and Mabel’s love with Tobert, three relationships that started in season 3.
