The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is visually impressive on Nintendo Switch 2, but its performance remains a noticeable weakness. The remaster targets 30 frames per second on Nintendo’s newer console, yet frequent frame-time fluctuations can make gameplay feel less smooth than the target suggests.
According to Digital Foundry’s technical analysis, the Switch 2 version runs at approximately 1080p when docked and 900p in handheld mode, using DLSS to help maintain image quality. The resulting presentation can look surprisingly close to the versions running on significantly more powerful hardware.
Switch 2’s Oblivion Remaster Has Noticeable Performance Issues
The biggest problem is frame pacing. While the game aims for 30 FPS, frame times can repeatedly fluctuate between roughly 16ms and 50ms, creating visible hitches as players move the camera or explore the world.
The Switch 2 version also reduces environmental detail compared with more powerful consoles. Foliage density is noticeably lower, while distant trees and other objects can appear or disappear as players move through the world.

There is some good news regarding stability. A performance problem affecting PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, where the game’s performance can deteriorate during extended play, reportedly does not appear in the same way on Switch 2. The console’s locked 30 FPS target may help avoid that particular issue.
Despite its shortcomings, the port remains technically impressive considering the hardware. Bethesda and Virtuos have managed to fit the entire remaster onto a Switch 2 cartridge, while retaining much of its visual presentation.
For players prioritizing portability, Oblivion Remastered remains an impressive achievement, but the frequent frame-time hitches could make future performance patches particularly valuable.
