Square Enix has offered a fresh update on the possibility of bringing Final Fantasy 15 to the original Nintendo Switch, revealing that the idea has not been completely abandoned despite the console’s aging hardware.
The comment came during the company’s annual shareholders meeting, where an attendee asked whether the critically acclaimed RPG could eventually be released on Nintendo’s first-generation hybrid console. While no port has been announced, Square Enix indicated that it remains a possibility.

Responding to the question, the publisher acknowledged the technical challenges involved but stopped short of ruling out the project entirely. Square Enix stated,
“There are hardware constraints, but from a specification standpoint it is not completely impossible, so it is under consideration.”
The statement is notable because it specifically referenced the original Nintendo Switch rather than the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2. Given the newer hardware, many fans have expected Final Fantasy 15 to be a more realistic candidate for Nintendo’s latest system instead.

Although Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition HD launched on Nintendo Switch in 2018, the complete console version of the game has never made its way to Nintendo hardware. The Pocket Edition featured simplified visuals and gameplay designed for mobile devices before arriving on Switch.
This isn’t the first time Square Enix has discussed the idea. Former Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata previously revealed that the development team had investigated bringing the full game to Nintendo’s console, though those efforts ultimately resulted in the release of Pocket Edition instead.
With Square Enix expanding its support for Nintendo platforms in recent years, the company’s latest comments suggest the door remains open—even if technical hurdles continue to stand in the way of a native Final Fantasy 15 release.
