Capcom, the publisher behind blockbuster franchises like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil, is seeing a major shift in how its games generate revenue. According to its latest financial disclosures, the company earned nearly twice as much from Steam as it did from PlayStation during the last fiscal year, highlighting the growing importance of PC gaming in its strategy.

The figures reflect a broader industry trend where digital platforms and PC storefronts are becoming central to long-term revenue generation.

Steam Emerges as Capcom’s Leading Platform

For the fiscal year ending March 2026, Capcom reported approximately 40.4 billion yen (around $252 million) in revenue from Steam alone. This accounted for roughly 20.7% of its total earnings. In comparison, revenue from PlayStation platforms stood at around 20.7 billion yen (approximately $129 million), making up about 10.6% of the company’s total.

These numbers confirm that Steam generated nearly double the revenue of PlayStation during the same period, making it Capcom’s most significant individual platform in terms of disclosed earnings.

The gap between PC and console revenue highlights how rapidly player behavior has shifted in recent years, especially as more titles launch simultaneously across platforms.

Capcom’s strong performance on Steam is not an isolated development. Earlier statements from the company revealed that PC sales now account for roughly half of its total game sales, signaling a long-term strategic shift.

In the past, many Japanese publishers treated PC releases as secondary, often launching them months after console versions. However, Capcom has increasingly embraced simultaneous global releases, ensuring its titles are available across all major platforms from day one.

This change has allowed the company to tap into a larger audience, particularly as PC gaming continues to expand globally.

Popular Franchises Fuel Long-Term Success

A key factor behind Capcom’s PC success is its strong lineup of evergreen titles. Games from major franchises like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter continue to attract players long after their initial release.

Titles such as Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 4, and Street Fighter 6 maintain active player bases on Steam, contributing to ongoing sales through discounts, bundles, and seasonal promotions.

Unlike physical releases, which typically see a sharp decline after launch, digital games benefit from extended lifecycles. This allows Capcom to generate consistent revenue over time rather than relying solely on new releases.

Digital Distribution Reshapes Revenue Trends

The rise of digital storefronts like Steam has fundamentally changed how publishers earn revenue. With frequent sales events and global accessibility, older titles can continue generating income years after release.

This model has proven particularly effective for Capcom, which has built a large catalog of games that remain relevant across multiple platforms. Steam’s global reach and established user base further amplify this effect, making it a key driver of the company’s financial growth.

While Steam’s share of revenue has slightly decreased compared to previous years, it still remains Capcom’s largest disclosed platform by a significant margin.
