Nintendo has officially acknowledged a major issue affecting its latest release, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, confirming that a game-breaking bug is currently under investigation. The title, which launched recently for the Switch 2, has already drawn player attention due to a glitch that can halt progression under specific conditions. In response, Nintendo says it is actively working on a fix and will release an update in the near future.
The issue first surfaced through player reports shortly after launch, with several users encountering a progression lock tied to one of the game’s investigation mechanics. Nintendo addressed the situation through its official customer support channels, stating that it has received
“multiple inquiries regarding a game-breaking bug”
and is now preparing a corrective update.
What the Bug Does and When It Happens
According to Nintendo’s statement, the bug occurs only under certain gameplay conditions but can prevent players from continuing the story entirely. The issue is tied to a sequence involving the “Bird of Paradise” investigation and the in-game “index” system, which functions as a guide for players.
The problem can arise if players begin investigating before receiving key instructions from a character named Fukashigi, then exit without making progress. In some cases, after progressing further in the game and unlocking the index explanation, players may become stuck and unable to exit the menu entirely. The glitch appears to be linked to progression milestones, particularly after completing four chapters.
Because of this, players who unknowingly trigger the sequence can find themselves locked out of advancing further, effectively halting gameplay. While the issue does not affect every player, it is serious enough to warrant an official response from Nintendo.
Nintendo Responds With Apology and Fix Plans
Nintendo has issued a formal apology, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to players and assuring them that a solution is in progress. In its statement, the company said it is
“currently preparing update data to fix this issue”
and will share more information once the patch is ready.
The company also emphasized that it is actively investigating the conditions under which the bug occurs, suggesting that the fix will be targeted rather than a broad update. While no exact release date has been given for the patch, the acknowledgment indicates that resolving the issue is a priority.
This quick response aligns with Nintendo’s typical approach to post-launch issues, where the company tends to act swiftly when major gameplay problems are identified.
Early Reception Still Mixed Despite Bug
Despite the technical issue, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book remains playable for most users and has generated interest as one of the early titles for the Switch 2. The game introduces new mechanics centered around exploration and interactive storytelling, setting it apart from previous entries in the Yoshi franchise.
However, the presence of a progression-blocking bug has impacted early impressions. For players encountering the issue, the experience can be frustrating, especially in a game designed around gradual discovery and narrative progression.
Nintendo has also promoted the game through in-store demos available at Switch 2 kiosks in select regions. These demos allow potential players to try the game before purchasing, though it is unclear whether the bug appears in these versions.
