Nihon Falcom is preparing to expand its approach to releasing games worldwide, and Nintendo Switch and PC appear to be playing an increasingly important role in that strategy. President and CEO Toshihiro Kondo says the platforms are currently responsible for a large share of the new players discovering the company’s games.
The comments came in an interview with Japanese publication ASCII Japan, where Kondo discussed the company’s changing approach to platforms, international releases, and the recent success of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st.
Trails in the Sky Helped Change Falcom’s Multiplatform Strategy
According to Kondo, Trails in the Sky the 1st was an important step toward Falcom taking greater control over worldwide releases. Rather than focusing primarily on PlayStation, the company launched the remake across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, giving the long-running RPG series access to a wider audience.
Kondo said the company received a
“very positive response”
after trying the approach, encouraging Falcom to pursue broader platform support in the future. He explained that the remake benefited from having much of its existing material already prepared, making international and multiplatform development easier than it can be for entirely new games.

The executive specifically highlighted the importance of Nintendo Switch and Steam when discussing Falcom’s growing audience.
“Right now, in terms of the number of new users, Switch and PC (Steam) account for the majority,”
Kondo said in the ASCII Japan interview.
That growth could influence how Falcom handles its future releases. Kondo said the company needs to support these platforms properly if it wants its franchises to remain successful over the long term while also increasing their visibility among new audiences.
The strategy is already continuing with Trails in the Sky the 2nd, which is scheduled to launch on September 17, 2026.
Kondo also believes Falcom’s experience shows that established franchises can successfully attract newcomers when they receive strong releases on new platforms. For a series as extensive as Trails, that could make broader worldwide availability an increasingly important part of its future.
