Shudder has just dropped the official US trailer for the sequel to Nightwatch, named Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever. This film stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, known from Game of Thrones, along with Danish actors Fanny Bornedal and Alex Høgh Andersen.
The sequel premieres on Shudder on May 17, 2024, and features original actors Kim Bodnia and Ulf Pilgaard. Ole Bornedal, who directed the first movie, is back to direct this sequel. Fanny Bornedal plays Emma, Martin’s daughter, in the film.
Emma takes a job as a night watch in the forensic department where her parents faced danger from the psychotic police inspector, Wormer, played by Pilgaard. As Emma’s father copes with her mother’s death using tranquilizers, the trailer shows Emma seeking the truth.
The Nightwatch Sequel Picks Up Where the 1994 Story Ended.
Coster-Waldau gained fame as Jamie Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones. Bodnia, known for playing Martin’s friend Jens Arnkiel, has also starred in Killing Eve and Netflix’s The Witcher. Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever premiered at the 2023 London Film Festival and later had a theatrical release in Nordic countries. Now, it’s heading straight to Shudder for its US release.
Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever streams on Shudder from May 17, 2024. Watch the trailer below.
The original Nightwatch was a hit in Denmark and even reached the Fantafestival in 1995. Bornedal later made an English version in 1997 with Ewan McGregor. The story follows Martin, a law student working night shifts at a Forensic Medicine Institute. Suspense builds as murders occur, linking to the medical department where Martin works.
Pilgaard’s Inspector Wormer collects evidence framing Martin as the killer. But in the end, the real villain is revealed to be Wormer. The sequel, set nearly thirty years later, starts with Emma’s encounter, pulling the killer out of a coma and setting off a series of events.
