Nick Kroll will host and executive produce the US adaptation of Prime Video's LOL Last One Laughing.

Prime Video is bringing its internationally successful comedy competition LOL: Last One Laughing to the United States, with comedian and actor Nick Kroll set to host and executive produce the American edition. Amazon MGM Studios announced the news on October 20, 2026, confirming that the series will stream exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories. Fulwell Entertainment is producing the show.

Known for his work on Big Mouth, The Kroll Show, television, films, stand-up comedy, and Broadway, Kroll will oversee a competition built around a simple but challenging rule: contestants must make their opponents laugh without laughing themselves. The American adaptation will bring 10 comedians and comedic actors together for six hours of improvisation, characters, physical comedy, and unexpected challenges.

The format has already established an international following through successful adaptations in multiple countries. Kroll’s appointment marks its American debut, with the comedian taking on the role of host, instigator, and referee as contestants attempt to maintain their composure under pressure.

HOW LOL: LAST ONE LAUGHING WORKS

The US edition of LOL: Last One Laughing will put 10 comedians in the same room for six hours, testing their ability to entertain others while keeping their own reactions under control. Contestants can use improvisation, character performances, physical comedy, jokes, and increasingly absurd routines to provoke laughter from their competitors.

However, the same rule applies to everyone: laughing can lead to elimination. The format also includes unexpected twists and challenges designed to catch contestants off guard, adding another layer of difficulty to the competition.

Unlike a conventional comedy show, where performers aim to make an audience laugh, LOL: Last One Laughing turns comedians into both entertainers and targets. Their success depends not only on delivering funny performances but also on resisting the jokes and antics of the other contestants. The announcement did not reveal the US contestants or a premiere date.

The international LOL Last One Laughing format challenges comedians to make their rivals laugh without losing their own composure.

Kroll expressed enthusiasm about joining the franchise, explaining that he had watched versions from other countries and was eager to see American comedians compete.

“I have loved this show in other countries and cannot wait to get the funniest people in the US together and watch them not laugh,” Kroll said. “This format is pure joy and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!”

Jenn Levy, Head of Nonfiction at Amazon MGM Studios, also welcomed Kroll’s involvement. She highlighted his sharp wit and mischievous approach to comedy, noting that asking people not to laugh around him could make the challenge particularly difficult.

Kroll will also serve as an executive producer alongside his company, Good At Business. Ben Winston, Emma Conway, and Eric Pankowski are executive producers, with Pankowski also serving as showrunner. Fulwell Entertainment is producing the series.

The American adaptation is based on Documental, a Japanese Amazon Original series owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo. The format has expanded into more than 25 territories, establishing LOL: Last One Laughing as an international comedy franchise for Prime Video.

Previous editions have featured well-known local hosts, including Jimmy Carr in the United Kingdom, Graham Norton in Ireland, Jay Baruchel in Canada, Eugenio Derbez in Mexico, Rebel Wilson in Australia, and Trevor Noah in South Africa. Each version adapts the same central premise for its local comedy scene.

With Nick Kroll leading the American edition, the series will bring the format to a new audience while drawing on his experience creating characters and performing across multiple entertainment platforms. The announcement confirms the host and production team, but further details about the cast and release date have yet to be revealed.
