2K has officially revealed NBA 2K27, confirming that this year’s basketball simulation will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 while leaving behind the original Nintendo Switch. The announcement also revealed San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama as the game’s cover athlete, marking another milestone in the young center’s rapidly growing career.
The absence of the original Nintendo Switch from 2K’s announcement signals the end of a long run for the platform, which has received every mainline NBA 2K title since the hybrid console launched in 2017. While 2K has yet to explain the decision, the move likely reflects the publisher’s shift toward Nintendo’s newer hardware.
Victor Wembanyama headlines NBA 2K27
Following the historic season that saw him become the NBA’s first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, Wembanyama will appear on the standard edition cover of NBA 2K27.
Reacting to the announcement, Wembanyama said:
“When you’re truly obsessed with basketball, the game doesn’t stop when you leave the arena. NBA 2K is the court that never locks up… To be the face of a game that fuels that hunger for hoops… that’s a dream come true for me.”
The French superstar added that the series helps players study basketball, improve their basketball IQ, and stay connected to the sport wherever they are.
2K confirmed that NBA 2K27 will once again feature fan-favorite modes, including MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and MyNBA. Players can build a custom MyPLAYER, compete across The City, The REC, and Park, while updated ProPLAY technology promises more realistic player animations and improved gameplay.
The game will also continue supporting both NBA and WNBA stars through MyTEAM, giving players more roster-building options across single-player and online modes.
With the move to Nintendo Switch 2, NBA 2K27 appears positioned to take advantage of the newer console’s more powerful hardware while bringing the franchise’s latest features to Nintendo players.
