Jennifer Williams, a cast member from the “Basketball Wives” series, teamed up with Angela Yee and did a short documentary miniseries for VH1 titled My True Scam Series in which she tells every single detail of how her ex-boyfriend scammed her, and his own family out of their money.
The docuseries, rather than shaming Williams for her lack of foresight, aims at empowerment of women and raising awareness within the African-American community when it comes to scams. In that demographic, there’s a lot of shaming, bullying, and negative attitudes towards people getting scammed.
This docuseries goes in line with many of the true life stories that VH1 is now telling in their new slew of shows for this new upcoming season. We’re going to recap the show with a few details for context as well as give you all the details you need to have so you will be well on your way as you sit down to watch this incredible story from a different perspective, Williams’s perspective and how things unfolded for her.
Recap
Jennifer Williams is a cast member of the popular show “Basketball Wives”. She was a main cast member for four seasons until she left the show rather abruptly because of her bad, cruel, and violent demeanor along with Royce Reed. Married to former Boston Celtics baller Eric Williams, she separated from him and moved on.
As she moved on, she eventually met this dude called Aaron Nichols, and things were ok for a while until Aaron showed his true colors. The dude was a money-grubbing scammer who managed to dupe and cheat Jennifer Williams out of her money, car, jewelry, and other possessions under several pretexts.
In the series, Jennifer tells her side of the story, how Aaron charmed her with her looks and wits but with a darker, ulterior motive. The episode also goes on to describe how scamming victims are perceived in the African-American community: The bullying, the shaming, the coping.
Also, Jennifer Williams is a social media personality, and when her scamming case became public, she faced lots of criticism from people who went to her social media profiles to shame her for it, for lacking foresight, and for making her feel bad. She shares how she dealt with that.
