My Lv999 Love For Yamada-Kun is the story of college student Kinoshita Akane. She used to be in a relationship with Furukawa Takuma. After his recommendation, Akane started to play an online multiplayer game called Forest of Saviors. She started playing solely because Takume loved the game soo much. Takuma left Akane for another girl he met at the game. To say that Akane was heartbroken would be an understatement.
Little did she know, she would find her Next Boyfriend right where she lost her old one. While in the game, trying to work through her grief, one monster at a time, she comes across Yamada. Yamada is very cold by nature, as was clear from his words. Akane tried to vent to him but did not receive even an ounce of sympathy from him. Out of frustration, she closed the game.
The very next day, she came across Yamada at an Event. She was surprised to know that Yamada Akiko was a celebrity among gamers. More importantly, her ex-boyfriend Takuma is a big-time fan of Yamada. With that, a plan formed in her head. After bribing Yamada with a coupon for a rare item in the game, she had him act as if they were in a relationship.

Aside from photos with her friends and family, there was even a picture of her with the town’s carpenter.
However, this led to the question of what Yamada would have thought about Akane if they had met earlier in life. To which Yamada just smiled. The scene then shifts to her hometown, where we get to meet Tamaya. Tamaya and Akane seem to have some shared history. We come to know that there is a high school reunion and that Akane will be visiting the town after soo long.
