In the previous episode of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2, Rudeus walks in on Cliff, having an argument with a few other students of the Academy. It was apparent that the students were bullying Cliff, but they all ran away once they noticed Rudeus coming their way.

Cliff did not reveal the reason they were arguing or why he was being bullied, and he ran off. However, Cliff comes up to Rudeus and explains his situation the very next day. Apparently, Cliff liked Elinalise, and the bullies were coming after him because of some uncouth rumors surrounding Elinalise.

Cliff asks for Rudeus’ help in confessing his feelings, but Rudeus warns him about a possible rejection because of the curse that was put on Elinalise. However, Rudeus is surprised to see that Elinalise actually accepted Cliff’s proposal, and they are in a relationship now. Cliff had also taken up the resolution to break Elinalise’s curse no matter what.

The next day, the Beastfolk tradition, where males and females fought each other to determine the leader, began, but Rinia and Pursena chose to opt out of it. The Dolda Beastfolk announced Rudeus as their leader, earning him the ire of every boy who wanted Rinia and Pursena for themselves.

One of the people who wanted to fight Rudeus was Badigadi, the Demon King of Immortality. Rudeus is nervous about fighting Badigadi, and he proposes a truce to him, saying that Badigadi needs to spare his life. Badigadi agreed to it with a few conditions of his own. The fight commences, and Rudeus emerges as the victor, much to his surprise.
