Murder in Big Horn Episode 2’s release date is out. If you are following the documentary or if you are thinking of starting it, here is a recap of episode 1, before the latest episode launches.
The three-part documentary highlights the cases of a group of American women who are found dead in different parts of Big Horn County, Montana. The first episode deals with the death of a 14-year-old girl, Henny Scott, who was found dead amidst the snow. The episode contains accounts of Henny’s family, her friends, a journalist, people from law enforcement, and other native women.
Henny Scott went to her school gym followed by attending a party, on the day she went missing. Despite her mother’s request for her to not attend the party and return home, she did not return. Henny was with a group of people, who liked to mess around with younger girls – according to Henny’s friend, Island Little Coyote. When a few hours passed, Nathan Stops, Henny’s stepfather, went to the house where the party was held, only to find out that Henny already left the venue. Panic and tension started hovering over Henny’s parents then.

Murder in Big Horn Episode 1 Recap
Henny’s parents filed a missing person’s report but the law enforcement officials did not take any actions – neither a search alert nor an amber alert was launched. Unable to keep their calm, the family started investigating on their own and started putting out missing person flyers all around the county.
After four days, Henny’s body was found in the snow, 200 yards away from the party venue by the FBI. On conducting an autopsy, hypothermia was concluded as the reason for death. The family refused to believe the autopsy report. Henny’s mother, Paula Castro, said that when Henny’s body was brought home, they saw her nose was broken, she had scratches over the body, and also a mark on the back of her neck. Paula speculated that Henny might have been drugged and sexually assaulted. But the FBI did not give any clear explanation.
The law enforcement officials said that Henny was wearing thin clothes in such freezing temperatures, which led to hypothermia. Henny’s family speculated that Henny was murdered but no official paid heed to them. The Montana Department of Justice declared that no federal charges would be filed for the murder and the case was closed.
Although the case was closed, Henny’s family requested a second autopsy where they got to know that Henny’s broken nose and the mark behind her neck were not the cause of her death. It was surprising for the family as well as the autopsy officials that Henny’s body was not attacked by any animal even though she was lying in the snow for four days. In the end, the autopsy officials could not diagnose the exact reason behind her death, therefore, they concluded it was hypothermia.
The next episode of Murder in Big Horn will show the case of another woman, Selena Not Afraid, who was found dead and might have been a victim of sex trafficking.
