Monster Hunter Wilds has been recognized with two Excellence Awards at CEDEC Awards 2026, one of Japan’s most prestigious honors celebrating achievements in game development.
During the awards ceremony held at Pacifico Yokohama on July 23, Capcom’s action RPG was recognized in both the Engineering Division and the Visual Arts Division, highlighting the technical expertise behind the game’s development rather than its commercial success.
The dual recognition places Monster Hunter Wilds among the standout titles honored at this year’s event, alongside Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Bananza and several other acclaimed games.
While Donkey Kong Bananza swept three Grand Awards, Monster Hunter Wilds stood out for its contributions to development technology and advanced animation techniques. The awards recognize the team’s efforts to share valuable technical knowledge with the industry while pushing visual realism forward through innovative animation systems, including machine learning-assisted muscle simulation.
Monster Hunter Wilds recognized for engineering innovation and advanced animation
Capcom received its first Excellence Award in the Engineering Division for the detailed disclosure of technical information involved in developing a large-scale commercial game.
According to the development team, Monster Hunter Wilds required
“various evolutions and challenges”
throughout production, with engineers adopting multiple technical approaches to improve the experience.
Accepting the award, the team said they were honored that
“our technical initiatives received high praise”
and added that the knowledge gained during development would be shared with the wider industry to help advance game development.

The game’s second Excellence Award came in the Visual Arts Division, where CEDEC recognized its realistic monster animation. Judges praised the animation system for making massive creatures appear alive through body shape deformation and posture control, creating lifelike movement that enhances immersion.
The development team also revealed that machine learning-powered muscle expression played an important role in achieving the visual results.
“I believe that “muscle expression using machine learning,” which was one of the reasons for selection, is quite a novel expression,”
the team said, adding that the technology reflects Monster Hunter’s ongoing commitment to exploring new forms of visual expression. They also noted that continued improvements to the RE Engine will help support future innovations across Capcom’s game development efforts.
Although Monster Hunter Wilds did not receive a Grand Award, earning Excellence Awards in two highly competitive categories demonstrates the industry’s recognition of Capcom’s technical achievements.
The honors reinforce the studio’s reputation for combining cutting-edge development practices with increasingly realistic creature animation, setting a strong benchmark for future entries in the Monster Hunter franchise.
