K-pop industry gained worldwide popularity be it in entertainment, music or even TV shows. YouTube is a given! Yet, they have come up with The First-Ever Musical Broadway with a cast of sixteen members! And the world can’t be more excited to witness this new theme. The new musical is called “KPOP”. The sixteen-member cast includes Julia Abueva, Jiho Kang, Amy Keum, Bo Hyung Kim, Min Young Lee, Abraham Lim, Jinwoo Jung, Aubie Merrylees, Will Brill, Joomin Hwang, Patrick Park, Eddy Lee, Mina Lin, Major Curda, Timothy H. Lee, Kate Mina Lin. Later, Lee Min-Young, Kevin Woo and Kim Bohyung joined the cast. However, the main lead of the musical remains Park Sun-young, who is known as Luna, professionally.
Sun-young is a South Korean singer and actress who belongs to the k-pop girl group f(x). She left SM entertainment after the expiration of the contract period. She went on to sign the contract with Grida entertainment. Luna’s involvement with musicals is quite remarkable. She was part of the Korean versions of musicals such as “Legally Blonde”, “The Last Kiss” and “Gone With The Wind.” Also called “Lulu”, the singer cum actress shares that ‘she is very happy and excited to lead the musical. And adds that she had always known that music is the thing for her and that it runs in her veins.’ As her family comes from a classical musical background. Min, Kevin Woo And Kim Bohyung Join f(x)’s Luna In Making The Musical Broadway:
While on March 30, it was announced that f(x) Luna will lead the cast through the musical. On April 4, KPOP went on to add three more members, who are to join Luna in making the musical Broadway. Lee Min-Young better known by her stage name Min was a former member of Miss A, a South Korean girl band. Miss A, also included South Korea’s prominent star, Bae Suzy. Miss A left JYP entertainment in 2017 when her contract with the same was expired.
Kevin Woo
Known as Kevin was a former member of U-KISS, a South Korean boy band. He is Korean- American singer and songwriter. Although the k-pop star left the band in 2017, he went on to become a solo artist and released a few songs such as, “Got It”, “Beautiful Day”, ” The Greatest Night” and “Falling.” Kevin shared on his Instagram handles about how he is proud to be part of this musical and also to represent the Asian American and Pacific Islanders(AAPI) community. He also said that it was his life-long dream to be part of a Broadway. Previously he was part of the musical” The Altar Boyz.”
Kim Bohyung
She currently works under ARA-LINE. Before that, he was a former member of SPICA and KEEMBO. She made his first solo debut in 2013 with the digital single “Crazy Girl.’ Kim Bohyung also produced popular OSTs- Including the K2 OST (Same Day)Abyss OST (Stay), and Born Again OST (Like the Stars and the Moon).
First-Ever KPOP Musical Broadway In History
The KPOP musical under the lead of f(x)’s Luna is all set to premiere on the 13th of October. The ‘Only For A Night‘ event will take place at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre, New York City. And the opening night will take place on 20th of October. Many across the world are very much excited for the night. And everyone hopes that it will turn out to be a huge success!
The KPOP musical is scripted by Jason Kim and directed by Teddy Bergman. The choreography will be taken care of by Jennifer Weber.
