After a career spanning more than 8 decades, Michale Caine, the actor responsible for presenting unforgettable roles such as Pennyworth from The Dark Knight Trilogy, has revealed that he’ll now be retiring from movies and other similar projects.
Earlier this month, Caine’s fans awaited the release of The Great Escape, a movie that’s based on a real war veteran. Shortly after its release, Caine announced on a program with Martha Kearney that he was going to be retiring from cinema.
Ever since Caine began his career back in the 50s and 60s, he was immediately regarded as an unforgettable actor. The Cockney accent, the distinct style, and incomparable acting skills made Caine one of the finest actors the world has ever seen.

Born as Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, Michael Caine began his career by playing a Cockney in films from the swinging sixties like Zulu, The Italian Job, and Battle of Britain.
Brought up in London by a Christian family, Michael knew he wanted to go into the world of acting after a play he did at ten ended up making the audience laugh joyfully (his zip was open). This led to the start of Caine’s very successful career, spanning countless genres and different roles.
The inspiration for the “Caine” in his name comes from the time he had to be cast in a film, but his original name, which was Michael White at the time, was already taken. He spotted the nearest title, “The Caine Murphy Mutiny” (1954 military film), and decided to keep it as his name.
While Caine’s acting skills would’ve been enough to increase his popularity, it was his visual style consisting of sharp suits and glasses that managed to capture the hearts of many.
Soon enough, Caine was receiving all kinds of roles, the most prominent being in Alfie in 1966 and The Quiet American in 2002. By 2005, Caine was cast as Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman Trilogy, a role that brought him into the eyes of the young generation.

During the BBC interview regarding his retirement, Michale Caine revealed that the reason for his exit from the movie world is that he was now old enough not to be cast as the leading role in any of the films.
While this wasn’t as big of a problem for Caine, he now desired to leave with a good impression. Moreover, the public’s love for his previous roles made him comfortable enough to retire. There was a time in the 2000s when Caine said that he wouldn’t be ever retiring from the job, so hearing these words from Caine has left many heartbroken.
Caine leaves the world of cinema with a legacy of great acting and character that barely a few actors manage to attain in their lifetime. Married to Shakira Baksh, Caine will now be spending most of his time at his London residences, working on new projects consisting of novels and stories.
