The birth of Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara’s first child Riley was full of ups and downs for the couple, especially for Trainor. Riley’s health problems and the pain of having a C-section all made Meghan Trainor’s delivery period a roller coaster ride. Now the ride is over, and Meghan Trainor is all here to share her experience about the stress she had gone through.
Trainor is coming up with her new book ‘Dear Future Mama: A TMI Guide to Pregnancy, Birth, and Motherhood from your Bestie’. While talking about the book Trainor candidly opened up about the ‘traumatic’ birth of her son and how the entire process caused her to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Trainor had previously stated to Romper that she was scheduled to go through a C-section because her son was in a breech position, meaning, inside the uterus, the baby was in a bottom-down position. Considering this, giving a normal delivery was dangerous, and so C-section was chosen.
The singer, 29, gave birth to a baby boy named Riley in 2021 via cesarean section. She and her husband “Spy Kid” actor Daryl Sabara welcomed their first child amid stress and tension. When Riley was born, he suffered from breathing problems and was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Trainor recalls talking to the People that post her surgery. She was left alone in the room as Riley was rushed to the NICU for intensive care, where he stayed for several days.
Her Version of the Time in Hospital
She recalls spending two days after the C-section recovering on different floors of the hospital. She had not got a real hold of the baby because Trainor herself was having post-delivery issues. She was bleeding while peeing, and she had to wait for her condition to become normal to meet her son finally. Trainor recalls she finally met Riley across a maze of babies covered in wires inside an incubator, and when she held him, she didn’t want that moment to go away. That moment was a total bliss for her.
After when everything was over, and the couple brought their child home safely and healthy, Trainor said, that is when she got a mental turnaround. She started experiencing horrifying flashbacks and nightmares from the C-section table. She says she couldn’t sleep at night, and she used to tell Sabara, “ I’m still on that table dude, I am trapped there. I can not remind myself I am in my bed and I am safe at home” with teary eyes. The time she spent on the surgery table, her post-surgery pains, and baby Riley’s health problems took a toll on her. All of it caused Meghan Trainor post-traumatic stress.
In the excerpt from her book, Trainor penned down her feelings and wrote that although drugs prevented her from anxiety, they couldn’t save her from “breaking down”. Trainor spoke straight from the shoulder about how distraught she felt when she was alone at the surgery table being sewn up for 45 minutes. She shares how blessed parents feel seeing their child, but there was Trainor all alone without her son and husband.
Next, Meghan Trainor started receiving the psychological help that she needed. Her psychologist explained why she was unable to sleep at night and why she was having nightmares of her C-section was due to a “chemical reaction. Something is off, and we have to open that up and heal that wound.” Trainor later expresses how therapy proved beneficial for her and said, “Time heals all”.
Meghan Trainor has always been open about her pregnancy journey, even though there were serious. Back in 2020, she talked about being diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
How is Meghan Trainor going now?
Meghan Trainor is currently pregnant with her second child. She has accomplished her weight loss goals post-Riley’s birth. She says that the period of transitioning from the mindset where you were once the healthiest and now realizing that you are going to be big again is very emotionally terrible. But then she reminds herself, “It is healthy for the baby, I have done it before, and I can do it twice.”
Meghan Trainor’s book Dear Future Mama: A TMI Guide to Pregnancy, Birth, and Motherhood from Your Bestie is an ultimate guide to pregnancy, body image, and post maternity period.
