We all know South Korea has a rule where any guy above 18 has to serve in the military for two years. It is not a choice, and the young men have to do military service. It is mandatory for all, until and unless there is some exception. Since South and North Korea are still technically at war, military service is necessary. They always need to be ready in case of a war. But not many know what conditions these young soldiers live in during this mandatory duty. K-Drama D.P. is all about this. The drama gained a lot of recognition for its theme and content and was appreciated worldwide. Today, we will make you meet with the talented cast of D.P., who brought the story to life on our screens.
Military service is hard, we all know. But sometimes, conditions worsen when there is bullying and maltreatment by fellow comrades or seniors. It is said that, on average, most of the deaths that take place in the military are due to suicide. And all these suicides have the same backstory of bullying and maltreatment. The drama, which is based on the webtoon D.P Dog Day by Kim Bo-tong, depicts these issues well.
D.P. Synopsis
D.P.’s full form is Deserter Pursuit. As we mentioned above, many soldiers face physical and mental abuse in the army. Hence, as a result, they tend to run off. The D.P. team exists to catch the soldiers who have run away from their mandatory military duty. The drama is set in 2014, when maltreatment of soldiers was high, and the drama has shown this to us in an explicit way. It seems more and more realistic as we watch the show. Each episode shows us a new story of a defector who ran away, and we can’t help but empathize with them. The drama can be said that it’s based on true stories, as these incidents do happen in South Korea. Soldiers are tormented to the level that they have to run away. The characters in the show get an insight into all the wrong that exists in their workplace.
D.P. was released in 2021 and had only six episodes. The show makes for an interesting watch because of this intense topic and the short duration of the run. The drama is available on Netflix for you to binge-watch. The drama is confirmed to have a Season 2, so you all better catch up!
