Married at First Sight (US), Lifetime’s unscripted matchmaking reality show in which they put a pair of strangers at the altar in order to tie up marriage and then film if they get along, is nearing the end of Season 17. As the final episodes hit the small screen, there are some difficult relationships, some cool-get-along relationships, and some that are borderline superficial.
We can see insecurities, shallowness, distinct cultures, and other issues emerge as the series takes us to Cancun for a honeymoon. Can these couples make their relationships work, or is this merely a further failed matchmaking attempt?
We’ve prepared a spoiler-free recap for you to keep you up to date on what’s going on, as well as a few more details on the dates and times for this program.
Recap
This season of Married at First Sight (US) hasn’t had as much drama as its predecessors. To be frank, it’s been quite boring. We kick off by recapping how Lauren used a disparaging racial slur and how Orien reacted to that. Besides a “she said, he said”, something we saw last week, there are more scenes on that. Guess there wasn’t much footage to show. In any case, Lauren looks defeated.
We move to Clara and Cameron, and then Emily and Brennan, who struggle with their own issues. While Clara isn’t clear on how to show some affection because she has baggage of the emotional kind —as The Offspring popular song says—, Cameron is dry, awkward, and a little erratic; he switches from seriousness to jokes.
Emily had a broken wrist, and Brennan convinced her to stay on the show to continue with their newlywed activities. As for Courtney and Ed, there’s no way those two are going to work out. It was just a constant conflict and discussion.
When the women get together, Claire discusses her aversion to physical touch, while Emily complains about her wrist pain. Despite their disagreement, Orien claims he has everything he wants in Lauren when the men gather.
Following a rained-out boat cruise, the group engages in a get-to-know-you game that includes revealing questions about their pasts and relationship tendencies.
Cameron is prompted to speak about his rebellious behavior following his parents’ divorce. Claire attempts to push herself out of her comfort zone by making physical contact with him, even if it feels unnatural.
Lauren wishes to be intimate with Orien, but when she inquires as to when he was last sexually active, he says it’s been over a year, whereas she was only two months ago. This immediately irritates him, and he declares that sex is completely off the table, reacting with judgment and a bruised ego. Lauren is chastised by Courtney for putting up with his delicate superiority and punishment for her past.
