Lifetime’s unscripted matchmaking reality show where they put two strangers at the altar to tie the knot and then film if they can get along called Married at First Sight (US) Season 17 is almost done. As the last episodes make their way to the small screens, there are some rocky relationships, some cool-get along with each other, and some that are just borderline superficial.
As the show takes us to Cancun for a honeymoon, we can see how insecurities, shallowness, cultural differences, and other issues emerge. Can these couples manage to make the relationship work, or is this just another failed attempt at matchmaking?
We prepared a spoiler-light recap for you, so you get in sync with what’s going as well as giving you a few more details on the times and schedules for this program.
Recap
Time for the honeymoon in sunny Cancun, Mexico. It’s a tropical paradise, with white sandy beaches, lovely hotels, and drinks with those little umbrellas on them. But there’s trouble in paradise, that’s for sure. We begin with Oryan and Lauren having a rather uncomfortable discussion about the use of racial slurs, this makes Oryan very upset.
Oryan isn’t happy about Lauring saying n*gger. He opens up about his cultural background and feels that that word is hurtful. Talk about being politically correct. It also makes you wonder if Oryan sings and says n*gger when he blasts hip-hop bangers. Is that cool, or is it also verboten? Double standards are quite the thing when it comes to that word and certain demographics.
Then, we move on to Claire and Cameron, who are having communication and connection issues as they differ in personalities and viewpoints concerning family, values, and the state of their relationship. Can they solve their differences?
Doesn’t seem like it. Still, Cameron’s goofy personality and outfit choices are worthy of notice, but we see how the dude is having problems connecting with her.
After that, Brennan and Emily seem to be having fun. They go to the beach, have drinks, go to the dance floor, and kick it off, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg because they need to connect emotionally too. Marriage isn’t only about the fun, the honeymoon is one thing, but marriage is for life, and you need to have the ability to communicate and talk about what’s ahead.
Austin and Becca seem very cool with each other on this Cancun trip, they are affectionate, and out of all these couples, they seem to be the ones that have the least of issues. Let’s hope it stays that way because we all like happy endings. These two connect the emotions and have fun, and the show focuses very little on them, at least for this episode.
