The Demon Girl Next Door, also known as Machikado Mazoku in Japan, is a four-panel manga parody series. Izumo Itou is the author and the illustrator for the series. In 2014, the series began publishing in Houbunsha’s seinen manga magazine Manga Time Kirara Carat. The series is still running, with over 50 chapters. It has also been published in six tankbon volumes. J.C. Staff announced the anime adaptation for the series on January 28, 2019. The news was revealed in the March edition of Manga Time Kirara Carat. The anime’s first season aired from July to September of 2019. The second season debuted this spring and is still broadcasting.
Plot
The plot centers around a low-income Japanese high school student. After a bizarre dream involving her ancestor, she wakes up one day with horns and a tail. Yuuko Yoshida is perplexed, but her mother explains why she awoke with horns and a tail and why they live in poverty. They are descended from a dark clan that was exiled to poverty by the magical girls, a light clan. It is now up to Yuuko to restore her family’s dignity and become wealthy by fighting a magical girl.
On her way to school one day, a girl named Momo rescues Yuuko from being run over by a truck. However, it turns out that she is the Magical that she seeks. Furthermore, Momo attends Sakuragaoka High, the same school as Yuuko. Yuuko takes on this supernatural girl, who also happens to be the town’s hero. Momo feels sorry for Yuuko and begins training her. How will Yuuko fight Momo and break the curse on her family while owing money and her powers to Momo? The anime portrays the daily lives of a girl who is attempting to break the curse and become wealthy.
Previously on Machikado Mazoku
The new season of Machikado Mazuko opens with Yuuko penning a letter to Momo challenging her to a battle at the start of the summer in the hopes of defeating Momo. However, despite their misconceptions, these two females wind up hanging out with each other in the end. Mikano ultimately joins the females, and they end up having a sukiyaki party at Yuuko’s house. They then travel to the place where the box in which Jason is confined was manufactured. Yuuko, on the other hand, discovers a magical wand that, when touched, transforms into a “fork.”
When she returns home, her mother confesses that the magic wand is a “whatchamacallit rod” that belonged to her father Jason. This magical wand has the ability to turn into any weapon or utility that its user imagines. The girls are discovered hanging in Yuuko’s apartment in the most recent episode. Momo connects the internet at Yuuko’s residence to assist Ryoko with her projects and assignments. But, of course, Yuuko has no idea what the Internet is and believes it is a person who can fly. Yuuko opens a social media account and is curious to learn Momo’s social media user name so she may add Momo as a friend on social media and learn more about her.
Lilith takes over Yuuko later in the episode to spend the day with Momo. They end up going to a wellness spa, which Momo, of course, pays for, but later, when the lights go out due to poor weather, it is found that Lilith, a Demon of darkness, is scared of darkness. They get along, but Momo uses Lilith’s nyctophobia to blackmail her.
