Dating is a part of life, and how interesting would it be if you got to find your dream partner and get a chance to walk out with them, earning a large sum of money? Created by Brent Baker and Joe Scarrat, Love Island is a dating game show inspired by the earlier series of the same name featuring celebrities which aired for one Season. The narration of Love Island episodes is done by Iain Stirling, while Maya Stirling is seen hosting the 10th Season of the worldwide popular dating series.
Love Island premiered for the first time on June 7, 2015, and has successfully run for nine seasons, with the 10th Season ongoing. Love Island has aired 390 episodes as of 2023, with each of them having a run time of 69-95 minutes. Produced by Ellie Burton, the series has been the proud recipient of the BAFTA TV Award in the category, Best Reality and Constructed Factually.
Love Island has been surrounded by controversies since the first time it aired, with viewers feeling the series has an adverse effect on individuals’ mental health due to the presence of perfect bodies and flawless skin. The series also came under fire for promoting the ill-treatment of women by controlling and abusive men, as we have witnessed a number of times male contestants featured on the series talking in a degrading manner with their female counterparts.
The biggest controversy that surrounded the series came to the death of the original host and two series contestants by suicide. Love Island was brought to the viewers by the ITV2 channel on June 7, 2015.
Love Island Season 10 contestants consist of Ruchee Gurung, a 24-year-old beautician, and Ella Thomas, a 23-year-old model. Catherine Agbaje, a 22-year-old real estate agent. Love Island Season 2 Episode 2 begins with the arrival of the first bombshell Tom in the villa. Once he arrives in the villa, he takes the girl contestants to the villa for a group chat. His decision to take the girls for a group chat leaves the boys of the villa unimpressed. After his chat with the girls, Tom has a chat with the boys, where he reveals he is into blonde women.
The next thing we know, the islanders [contestants] start to play the game of dares with Will, the farmer dancing to show off his moves, followed by Tom kissing three women, Olivia, Lana, and Tanyel, whom he is interested in.
The game ends with Will giving a wired foot massage to Olivia. The night ends with islanders having fun, and the next day begins with Tom taking time to individually chat up with the girls, where all the girls reveal that they are not fully committed to their current partner.
Olivia is open about seeing Will as more of a friend than a partner. Ron and Lana made a choice to keep their options open and not fully commit to one person. Lana reveals to Tom that he is the perfect match for her as he ticks all of her boxes. Following the chats, the islanders head off to their first challenge of the Season.
The challenge was that the islander had to reveal each other’s dirty secrets. The viewers got to know about Olivia making a catfish account to stalk a guy. Meanwhile, Tanya becomes jealous of other girls kissing Shaq during the challenge. After the islander has done quite a lot of snogging, we get to see a soft moment between Shaq and Tanya, as the former reveals that he is catching feelings for the latter. At the same time, Ron opens up to Lana about being partially blind.
As the evening comes, Olivia reveals to Haris that she would still like to know him even if Tom chooses her as his partner by night time. Will is heartbroken as Tom chooses Olivia as his partner, leaving him single.
It was a relief for Will that he wasn’t booted off the island. A revelation is made through a message by the episode’s end, which reveals that another recoupling will happen on the weekend that will be used as the basis to see who is the first islander to get dumped.
