Billy Baldwin stands by his wife Chynna Phillips’ commitment to Christianity, acknowledging its impact on their marriage.
This month, the 55-year-old Wilson Phillips songstress shared a video on her YouTube channel, featuring a heart-to-heart conversation with her 60-year-old husband. Titled “We Had A Rough Heart to Heart,” the video was posted on Phillips’ California Preachin’ channel, where she identifies as a “Jesus influencer.”
Billy Baldwin reassured in the video that, despite recent headlines about his wife’s faith causing a “rupture,” their relationship remains resilient.
Both Baldwin and Phillips acknowledged a six-month separation, rejecting claims of a “lousy relationship” as an “absolute untruth.” Baldwin affirmed they successfully “worked it out.”
In the video, Phillips confessed that since dedicating her life to Christ, she recognized that she and her husband aren’t always on the same page.
“Sometimes that tends to cause ruptures and little chasms in our relationship, and we are trying our best to navigate those differences,” Phillips said. “The Christianity aspect has been sort of a glaring issue for a while because [religion] has sort of overtaken my life in many ways. It has perhaps even made you question whether you and I can really make it in the long run.”
“You would never divorce me, but would we be able to stay truly happy and connected and thrive with me being on this trajectory — this Jesus trajectory?” she asked her spouse.
Baldwin responded by suggesting Phillips had a “fantasy” of emulating Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, the American televangelists with a controversial history. Before elaborating on his theory, Phillips interjected, stating it was a “story that you told yourself.”
Baldwin openly acknowledged that they are in different places in their faith, recognizing that Phillips is farther along in her spiritual journey than he is.
“It hasn’t been become sort of the partnership that you’ve been yearning or hoping for,” he told his wife. “But I still absolutely love you, absolutely adore you, and completely support you. That’s why I’m sitting here now. That’s why we go to church together. That’s why we pray together. That’s why we talk about faith together, That’s why I do this stuff for you … It’s because I’m a supportive, loving husband who adores his wife wants to spend the rest of my life with you, no question.”
“I just want you to begin your journey, your faith journey,” Phillips replied.
The 25-minute video concluded with the couple sharing a prayer and expressing their excitement about doing more together as empty nesters, following their three children moving out of the home.
Baldwin proposed growing closer through shared activities like exercise or watching a new Netflix show. In a lighthearted moment, Phillips joked about the next chapter being called “The Chynna and Billy Jesus Crusade.”
