Kazuo Umezu, widely regarded as the “Godfather of Japanese Horror Manga,” has passed away at 88 years old. His death on October 28, 2024, marks the end of an era for manga fans worldwide. The Drifting Classroom was so influential that it won the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award in 1974, solidifying Umezu’s place in manga history.
