It seems like things will get interesting on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 18 when two different cases find similarities to each other. Meanwhile, the previous episode gave us a look at a human trafficking gang that had the support of some corrupt officers. Although, the traffickers caught the eye of the SVU when three girls from Joe’s hometown were trafficked into New York.
On the other hand, the traffickers went to extreme steps when they attacked a detective on the case who possibly found out some major information about them. Whereas Joe got himself into trouble while trying to go undercover without informing Olivia or Tutuola about it beforehand. Meanwhile, Olivia and the team had to play it safe to uncover the corrupt officer helping the traffickers escape before getting caught.
The police procedural television show has been keeping the fans entertained for a very long period of time since it first started airing way back in 1999. Even almost twenty-three years later, the show has still got the fans hooked, and with the current season, the fans are eager to watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 18. However, let us first check out what went down in the previous episode.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 17 Recap
Episode 17 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 came out on 7th April 2022 and was titled “Once Upon A Time In El Barrio”. The episode saw a gang outside the US luring young girls through the opportunities of a modeling career and trafficking them into the US for selling to other buyers. However, things escalated when Joe learned that three girls from his hometown went missing and had possibly been brought into New York by the traffickers. While the team also found one of those three girls burned to death in the city, and Olivia started a hunt to find the traffickers.
However, Joe took the case personally and went undercover all by himself to find out where the girls could have been taken. Eventually, he ended up in an alley where the Spanish sex workers hang out and tried to talk to one of them to get some information. But he ended up getting arrested when the Spanish sex worker turned out to be another undercover detective named Rosanny Chavez. The next morning, Olivia and Tutuola got him out, and he apologized for going out without informing them. However, Detective Rosanny was also trying to bust the traffickers, so they joined hands to work together.
After doing some digging, they discovered a motel where they found one of the young girls named Lucia, who was trafficked along with the other three girls, and she recognized the girl who was burned alive. Rosanny convinced her to talk so they could help, and she set up a meeting with Joe and the team at a bakery but right when she was coming, a truck ran over Rossany, and she died in the hospital later on. However, Lucia managed to escape somehow but was injured. Still, Joe managed to find her and brought her to the department, where she told that a police captain was involved with the traffickers and he got physical with her several times.
Olivia and Joe got an idea that it was Rosanny’s captain from the precinct, and they eventually found his connection to the gang. Seeing that he would go to jail for a long time, he agreed to cooperate in catching one of the main gang members named Jorge, who ran things in New York and who was responsible for burning the girl alive. The captain set up a meet as it was supposed to happen before, and Joe went along, posing as a potential buyer for the girls. Eventually, the plan worked, and the police surrounded Jorge and his men while Joe rescued all the girls safely.
