Larian Studios has once again clarified its future plans, confirming that it is no longer involved with any Baldur’s Gate 3-related projects. The statement came after the announcement of an upcoming Dark Horse Comics graphic novel set in Baldur’s Gate 3, which led some fans to speculate that the developer was secretly working on new content for the award-winning RPG.
To put those rumors to rest, Larian shared a message on its official X account, emphasizing that its focus has shifted away from the Baldur’s Gate franchise.
Larian rules out further Baldur’s Gate 3 involvement
Following the comic’s reveal, Larian Studios addressed fan speculation in a post on X. The developer wrote,
“Maximum hijinks are happening right now, but we’re not involved in any BG3 related projects.”
The studio also teased what’s next by adding,
“As soon as we bust outta here, we’ll share more about Divinity.”
Although the post included a humorous image of founder Swen Vincke wearing medieval armor, Larian did not reveal any further details about the teased announcement.

The statement aligns with comments Vincke has made since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, confirming that the studio is moving on from both Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons & Dragons to focus on its own original role-playing games.
Larian has previously announced that it is developing two new RPGs, and many fans believe one of them could be the next entry in the Divinity series. The franchise has remained dormant since the release of Divinity: Original Sin 2 in 2017, a game widely regarded as one of the best modern CRPGs.
As for Baldur’s Gate 4, its future rests with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, which own the Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property. Wizards of the Coast president John Hight previously said that another Baldur’s Gate game will happen “of course,” though no developer or release window has been announced.
For now, Larian’s latest statement makes one thing clear: the studio’s next chapter lies beyond Baldur’s Gate, with more news about Divinity expected in the near future.
