KENSHI YONEZU, the global crossover J-pop artist, is gearing up to release his sixth studio album, LOST CORNER, digitally worldwide on Wednesday, August 21. Today, he has debuted a new track from the album titled “RED OUT,” which is available everywhere now.
“RED OUT” serves as the intense and stirring opener for LOST CORNER and is featured in Spotify Japan’s latest commercial. The commercial highlights the transformative power of music in everyday life, featuring a rousing performance by the world-famous dancer “THE D SoraKi.”
Along with the track, the official music video has also been released. The video, directed by Kyotaro Hayashi, is a dark, strobe light-infused visual featuring Yonezu that elevates the already powerful track to new heights. Hayashi has previously worked with Yonezu on some of his most-watched videos, including “M87” and “TEENAGE RIOT.”
Yonezu’s Highly Anticipated Album ‘LOST CORNER’ Set for Global Release, Featuring Exclusive Spotify Content
In addition to the Spotify Japan-branded commercial, Yonezu has recorded “Liner Voice+” audio content for the platform, where he discusses the creation of LOST CORNER and shares additional Spotify-exclusive content. More details about this content will be released on Spotify Japan’s official X page.
Expectations have been high since Yonezu’s previous album, STRAY SHEEP. LOST CORNER is his long-awaited follow-up and will be released digitally worldwide on Wednesday, August 21, with physical versions available locally on Friday, August 23. The album is packed with 20 tracks, including a collection of songs Yonezu has released over the past four years.
These include “Sayonara, Mata Itsuka! – Sayonara” (the theme song for the NHK Morning Drama The Tiger and Her Wings), “Spinning Globe” (the theme song for the Oscar-winning Studio Ghibli film The Boy and the Heron), “Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing” (the theme song for FINAL FANTASY XVI), and “KICK BACK” (the opening theme for the anime series CHAINSAW MAN).
Yonezu’s New Album ‘LOST CORNER’ to Feature Eight New Tracks, Including a Duet with AiNA THE END
Additionally, the album features eight never-before-heard tracks, including a vocal duet with Japanese singer and actress AiNA THE END, formerly of Bish.
LOST CORNER is Yonezu’s highly anticipated follow-up to his 2020 album STRAY SHEEP, which broke records on the IFPI Global All Format Chart and made Yonezu the highest-placing Japanese artist on the IFPI year-end global ranking chart, with over 1.9 million CD units shipped.
When STRAY SHEEP was released, Yonezu gained worldwide attention with his “Yonezu Kenshi 2020 Event / STRAY SHEEP in FORTNITE,” making him the first Asian artist to have a virtual concert in FORTNITE, a battle royale game with 370 million players worldwide.
On the same day, Yonezu’s self-drawn illustrations were featured in New York’s Fifth Avenue UNIQLO storefront, creating a global trend. The storefront collaboration also took place in Japan and China, spanning a total of 8 UNIQLO stores worldwide.
